Abstract: In this paper, a method for representing electromagnetic emissions from a printed circuit board (PCB) using an equivalent dipole model deduced from near-field scanning is proposed. The basic idea is to replace the PCB with a set of infinitesimal dipoles that generate the same radiated fields. Parameters of the equivalent dipoles are determined by directly fitting to the measured magnetic near fields. In closed-environment simulations, the equivalent method is extended to a dipole-dielectric conducting plane model to account for the interactions between the PCB and enclosure by including the basic physical features of the PCB. The electromagnetic emissions can then be predicted by solving the equivalent model with numerical methods, thereby, significantly reducing the simulation time and storage costs. A basic test board and a more complex practical telemetry PCB are modeled in different configurations and compared with measurements and full-field simulations, confirming the validity and efficiency of the model.

TL;DR: A novel antenna having a beam focused to a small spot in the near-field zone which is intended for use in microwave industrial inspection is presented and shown to be in good agreement with the predictions, validating the development concept.
Abstract: This paper presents a novel antenna having a beam focused to a small spot in the near-field zone which is intended for use in microwave industrial inspection. The array is implemented using broadband U-slotted microstrip patch-antenna elements and an integrated microstrip feeding network. Analogy with a dielectric lens is used to generate appropriate feeding coefficients for the elements of the array. The concept is demonstrated with two practical implementations having 300- and 126-mm focal distances. The measured results are presented and shown to be in good agreement with the predictions, validating the development concept.

19 Nov 2003TL;DR: It is shown through simulations that a high-resolution Raman spectrum can be obtained of a molecule in a single pulse using broad band radiation, which could be useful for identifying the three-dimensional spatial distribution of molecular species in tissue.
Abstract: A method of examining a sample, which includes: exposing a reference to a first set of electromagnetic radiation, to form a second set of electromagnetic radiation scattered from the reference; exposing a sample to a third set of electromagnetic radiation to form a fourth set of electromagnetic radiation scattered from the sample; and interfering the second set of electromagnetic radiation and the fourth set of electromagnetic radiation. The first set and the third set of electromagnetic radiation are generated from a source; at least a portion of the second set of electromagnetic radiation is of a frequency different from that of the first set of electromagnetic radiation; and at least a portion of the fourth set of electromagnetic radiation is of a frequency different from that of the third set of electromagnetic radiation.
