TL;DR: This work addresses the rationale for this change, the characteristics of the network processor architecture required to address it, and the software development tools needed in order to improve time-to-market without sacrificing embedded software performance.
Abstract: With the projected explosion of low-cost bandwidth availability, the intensive processing tasks and service hosting will move close to consumers on the "intelligent edge" of the network, where a significant portion of the future storage, processing and network management will take place. We address the rationale for this change, the characteristics of the network processor architecture required to address it, and the software development tools needed in order to improve time-to-market without sacrificing embedded software performance.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe a network control architecture that provides for distributed control of the optical component work functions and network management, where the distribution of the work function control in the network element provides for a hierarchical division of work function responsibilities.
Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, and methods are disclosed that include network control architectures that provide for distributed control of the optical component work functions and network management. The distribution of the work function control in the network element provides for a hierarchical division of work function responsibilities. The hierarchical division provides for streamlined and specically tailored control structures that greatly increases the reliability of the network management system.

TL;DR: A policy-based approach to realize the coordination-related decision making based on the network configuration and SON function context is presented and results for two use cases are presented to show the applicability of the developed approach to diverse SON use cases.
Abstract: Future wireless networks (LTE and beyond) will experience a continuous growth regarding the number of network elements with increasingly complex interrelations between the configuration of multiple network elements (NEs). A related trend is the seamless integration of multiple radio technologies into a single heterogeneous wireless network. Both developments increase network management complexity and require new management concepts with a very high degree of automation such as Self-Organizing Network (SON) concepts, which are currently discussed in the network operator (NGMN), research, and standardization (3GPP) communities. SON functions have to be coordinated and supervised in an automated way in order to enable a stable system operation with tight control over the system behavior by the network operator together with a high degree of automation. Based on a detailed analysis of the requirements for the coordination, a policy-based approach to realize the coordination-related decision making based on the network configuration and SON function context is presented. Results for two use cases (fully automatic hardware to site mapping and coverage & capacity optimization) are presented to show the applicability of the developed approach to diverse SON use cases.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method for building a computer peripheral information database for a plurality of peripherals operably connected to a network for sharing between a pluralityof users provide a valuable tool for network management and administration.
Abstract: A novel method for building a computer peripheral information database for a plurality of peripherals operably connected to a network for sharing between a plurality of users provide a valuable tool for network management and administration. A preferred embodiment of the method is for use with networked printers. Configuration data for the printer is input by at least one user, and printer usage data is obtained by repeated queries over the network to the printers. The information database will contain printer duty cycle and cost data for each of the printer.

TL;DR: In this paper, a Health Care Information Network (HCIN) is provided that allows subscribers access to a data center through a frame relay network to a LAN of a similar type located at a central office.
Abstract: A Health Care Information Network is provided that allows subscribers access to a data center. A LAN arranged at the data center is connected through a frame relay network to a LAN of a similar type located at a central office. ISDN/LAN bridges link the LAN to an ISDN switch that provides the subscribers with ISDN Centrex services. A PC at the subscriber's site can gain the subscriber access to the ISDN switch via an ISDN Centrex line. The subscribers are provided with voice, image and data transmission, and can communicate not only with the data center but with each other. For disaster recovery, e.g., if a connection is broken or defective, the network can provide alternative routes. A network manager at the data center is able to configure the network, monitor its status and react to failures and overloads on a real time basis.
