TL;DR: The design of simplified simulation environment of the quantum key distribution network with multiple links and nodes is described and several routing protocols are analyzed in terms of the number of sent routing packets, goodput and Packet Delivery Ratio of data traffic flow using NS-3 simulator.
Abstract: As research in quantum key distribution network technologies grows larger and more complex, the need for highly accurate and scalable simulation technologies becomes important to assess the practical feasibility and foresee difficulties in the practical implementation of theoretical achievements. In this paper, we described the design of simplified simulation environment of the quantum key distribution network with multiple links and nodes. In such simulation environment, we analyzed several routing protocols in terms of the number of sent routing packets, goodput and Packet Delivery Ratio of data traffic flow using NS-3 simulator.

TL;DR: A methodology for the short-term prediction of traffic flow using the stochastic differential equation (SDE) is developed and is applied in Tehran's highways, and the obtained results are compared with previous artworks.
Abstract: Traffic flow prediction can be used for the management of traffic control systems and can be applied toward improving traffic light split times at intersections. In this paper, we developed a methodology for the short-term prediction of traffic flow using the stochastic differential equation (SDE). Since the current volume depends on the previous short-term volume and time, we used the Hull-White model. With the proposed method, a flexible short-term prediction of volume is suggested. It is possible to simulate traffic conditions easily and also detect incidents precisely. This method is applied in Tehran's highways, and the obtained results are compared with previous artworks. Our results offered a better fit to the traffic volume.

TL;DR: This work formally defines and analyze the scheme of advance reservations in dynamically provisioned optical networks and presents a constrained mathematical model for advance reservations, and introduces FONTS - the Flexible Optical Network Traffic Simulator, a tool for simulating advance reservation, on-demand, and periodic data transfer requests.
Abstract: The scheme of advance reservations in dynamically provisioned optical networks is novel, and there are no grid-based applications designed to utilize this scheme. We formally define and analyze this scheme and present a constrained mathematical model for advance reservations. We also introduce FONTS - the Flexible Optical Network Traffic Simulator, a tool for simulating advance reservation, on-demand, and periodic data transfer requests. FONTS is based on a stochastic model and incorporates a variety of variables, which have been identified to accurately model advance reservation requests. FONTS validates the mathematical model and also helps to analyze complex scenarios beyond the scope of this paper.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed a procedure for simplifying a detailed model into a fast (abstract) simulation model that achieves a statistically indistinguishable level of accuracy and precision in the simulation of semiconductor manufacturing facilities.
Abstract: Cycle Time -- Throughput curves (CT-TH), which plot the average cycle time versus start rate for a given product mix, are often used to support decisions made in manufacturing settings, such as the impact of proposed changes in start rate on mean cycle time. Discrete event simulation is often used to generate estimations of cycle time at a significant number of traffic intensities (start rates). However, simulation often requires long run lengths and extensive output analysis. In most manufacturing environments, the time and/or budget available for such simulations is limited. As demands for faster and more accurate results are required, alternative approaches to improving simulation efficiency must be investigated. This research seeks to develop a procedure for simplifying a detailed model into a fast (abstract) simulation model that achieves a statistically indistinguishable level of accuracy and precision. This technique has particular application in the simulation of semiconductor manufacturing facilities.

TL;DR: It is shown that traffic localization using a peer selection policy at super peers is possible, containing P2P traffic to the local metropolitan network as much as 40%.
Abstract: We report studies on peer-to-peer (P2P) traffic analysis, modeling, and evaluation of policies for the management P2P traffic in metropolitan networks. We conducted crawler-based measurement and analysis of P2P traffic using Gnutella. Based on the empirical parameters obtained through the measurement, known modeling techniques of P2P peers and contents, and GeoPoint, a geomapping technology, we built a P2P traffic simulator using J-Sim, a Java-based network simulation tool. The simulator is scenario-driven, allowing its user to customize network settings and service environment to examine the behavior of P2P traffic. With the P2P simulator, we were able to recreate a spatio-temporal traffic pattern characteristic to P2P services observed in August 2002. We then evaluated three different P2P traffic management policies, showing that traffic localization using a peer selection policy at super peers is possible, containing P2P traffic to the local metropolitan network as much as 40%.
