TL;DR: A deterministic queueing model of network traffic flow, in which traffic on each link is considered as a queue, which concludes that the model is physically meaningful, computationally efficient, always stable, and mathematically tractable fornetwork traffic flow.
Abstract: Fundamental to many transportation network studies, traffic flow models can be used to describe traffic dynamics determined by drivers' car-following, lane-changing, merging, and diverging behaviors. In this study, we develop a deterministic queueing model of network traffic flow, in which traffic on each link is considered as a queue. In the link queue model, the demand and supply of a queue are defined based on the link's fundamental diagram, and its in- and out-fluxes are computed from junction flux functions corresponding to macroscopic merging and diverging rules. We demonstrate that the model is well defined and can be considered as a continuous approximation to the kinematic wave model on a road network. From careful analytical and numerical studies, we conclude that the model is physically meaningful, computationally efficient, always stable, and mathematically tractable for network traffic flow. As an addition to the multiscale modeling framework of network traffic flow, the model strikes a balance between mathematical tractability and physical realism and can be used for analyzing traffic dynamics, developing traffic operation strategies, and studying drivers' route choice and other behaviors in large-scale road networks.

Abstract: The authors present important traffic issues in a low earth orbit satellite-based global personal communications network. The article gives an overview of the characteristics of tomorrow's personal communications networks from a subscriber traffic viewpoint. Selection of multiple access scheme as well as traffic modeling in such systems is discussed, and effects of natural, unbalanced global communications traffic on the performance of the system are distinguished.

TL;DR: This paper focuses on the problems of short-term traffic flow forecasting and presents correction coefficients optimization algorithm, which is a real-time correction algorithm based on Fuzzy Neural Network to overcome the nonlinear mapping problems.
Abstract: This paper focuses on the problems of short-term traffic flow forecasting. The main goal is to put forward traffic correlation model and real-time correction algorithm for traffic flow forecasting. Traffic correlation model is established based on the temporal-spatial-historical correlation characteristic of traffic big data. In order to simplify the traffic correlation model, this paper presents correction coefficients optimization algorithm. Considering multistate characteristic of traffic big data, a dynamic part is added to traffic correlation model. Real-time correction algorithm based on Fuzzy Neural Network is presented to overcome the nonlinear mapping problems. A case study based on a real-world road network in Beijing, China, is implemented to test the efficiency and applicability of the proposed modeling methods.

TL;DR: In this article, methods and systems for estimating the source-destination traffic in a packet-switched network are described. But, it is difficult and prohibitively expensive to directly measure source-source traffic in such networks.
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for estimating the source-destination traffic in a packet-switched network. Source-destination traffic is critical input to a variety of network engineering and planning functions. However, it is difficult and prohibitively expensive to directly measure source-destination traffic in a packet-switched network. Channel link measurements are more readily available for packet-switched networks. Thus, methods and systems in accordance with the present invention use channel link measurements, along with knowledge of traffic paths through the network for source-destination pairs, to estimate source-destination traffic.

TL;DR: The binary tree and its X-tree variant are found to be especially attractive network configurations in simulation applications with simulation tasks assigned to nodes according to a model-frame/experiment- frame/output-frame trichotomy.
Abstract: Statistical considerations in simulating complex systems on a hierarchical network of low-cost microcomputers are discussed. Network configurations, allocation of computer tasks to nodes of the network, and assignment of simulation trials are examined. The binary tree and its X-tree variant are found to be especially attractive network configurations in simulation applications with simulation tasks assigned to nodes according to a model-frame/experiment-frame/output-frame trichotomy. Procedures for performing designed simulation experiments, including factor screening experiments, and for conducting variance reduction through manipulation of random number streams are presented.
