TL;DR: In this paper, a survey on metal dusting is given, where the mechanisms for metal carburization and graphitization in carbonaceous atmospheres at carbon activities a C > 1.
Abstract: A survey is given on recent research on metal dusting i.e. a catastrophic carburization or rather graphitization of metals and alloys occuring in carbonaceous atmospheres at carbon activities a C >1. The thermodynamics are explained, the mechanisms for iron, low and high alloy steels, nickel and Ni-base alloys are described and the kinetics derived for iron and low alloy steels. Protection against metal dusting is possible by the presence of sulfur in the atmosphere, since adsorbed sulfur retards carbon transfer and hems graphite nucleation. Also dense oxide layers are protective, the preconditions for the formation of Cr-rich protectivee layers on steels and Ni-base alloys are shortly presenteed.

TL;DR: In this article, the NixPy-325 catalysts with controllable phases were reported as the efficient bifunctional catalysts for water electrolysis, which achieved a high performance for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in the electrolytes with a wide pH range.
Abstract: To search for the efficient non-noble metal based and/or earth-abundant electrocatalysts for overall water-splitting is critical to promote the clean-energy technologies for hydrogen economy. Herein, we report nickel phosphide (NixPy) catalysts with the controllable phases as the efficient bifunctional catalysts for water electrolysis. The phases of NixPy were determined by the temperatures of the solid-phase reaction between the ultrathin Ni(OH)2 plates and NaH2PO2·H2O. The NixPy with the richest Ni5P4 phase synthesized at 325 °C (NixPy-325) delivered efficient and robust catalytic performance for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in the electrolytes with a wide pH range. The NixPy-325 catalysts also exhibited a remarkable performance for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in a strong alkaline electrolyte (1.0 M KOH) due to the formation of surface NiOOH species. Furthermore, the bifunctional NixPy-325 catalysts enabled a highly performed overall water-splitting with ∼100% Faradaic efficiency in 1.0 M KOH e...

TL;DR: In this article, a review of the literature on the electrodeposition of nickel and its binary and selected ternary alloys with copper and cobalt is presented, along with the determination of the structure and morphology of the deposits on different substrates.
Abstract: The numerous theoretical and practical studies of the electrodeposition of nickel and its binary and selected ternary alloys with copper and cobalt over the last 10–15 years are reviewed. The reported mechanisms of the electrodeposition processes and accompanying evolution of hydrogen are considered. The complex influence of different bath compositions, pHs, current densities or potential ranges and temperature on the formation of single or multiple deposition layers are compared. The determination of the structure and morphology of the deposits on different substrates, including solid surfaces and particulate materials, using a range of analytical techniques are reported.
