Abstract: The reduction by NaBH4 of Ni(II) cation dissolved in the aqueous discontinuous phase of reversed micelles provides a convenient way to produce nickel boride particles of predetermined size and size distribution, given a well-defined micellar composition and concentration of the reducing agent The soobtained particles normally in the colloidal state, can be deposited on a support if needed Such catalysts are nearly monodispersed and show an activity apparently superior to that of Raney nickel in the hydrogenation of n-1-heptene

Abstract: 2-Ethyl-2-hexenal was hydrogenated over Raney Nickel and nickel boride in a batch slurry reactor. Using Raney Nickel, the reaction went to completion, and the formation of both 2-ethylhexanal and 2-ethylhexanol followed zero order kinetics. Using nickel boride, the reaction ceased at the saturated aldehyde, with saturation of the double bond a zero order reaction. Unsaturated alcohol was not detected in any of the reaction mixtures. On a hydrogene, dans un reacteur discontinu avec suspension de catalyseur, le 2-ethyl-2-hexenal sur du nickel de Raney et du borure de nickel. En presence du nickel de Raney, la reaction est complete et les formations du 2-ethyl-hexenal et du 2-ethylhexanol suivent une cinetique d'ordre zero. En presence de borure de nickel, la reaction s'arrěte a l'aldehyde sature et la saturation de la double liaison est une reaction d'ordre zero. On n'a pas decele d'alcool non sature dans les produits.

Abstract: 1. Electrolytic Ni−B coatings are nickel (FCC lattice) with boron inclusions. 2. Depending on heat treatment temperature in a medium of boron carbide the structure and phase content of a composite Ni−B coating are different. On heating to 950°C the coating is nickel boride Ni3B, an interstitial solid solution of boron in FCC-lattice nickel, and a solid solution of nickel with an FCC lattice in α iron. 3. Composite Ni−B coatings exhibit high hardness. Coatings heat treated at 950°C have zero brittleness on the points scale; with increasing heating temperature brittleness increases.
