TL;DR: Additional unilateral caloric trials confirmed reports that the reduction of nystagmus is specific to the direction elicited during habituation trials and possible causes for the failure to obtain transfer were examined.
Abstract: Six cats were exposed to mild angular accelerations before and after a series of 15 caloric irrigations. All trials were in total darkness. Slow-phase displacement of the eyes, beat-frequency, and duration of nystagmus were scored. All 3 measures reflected declines in both the primary and the secondary reactions during the course of caloric irrigations. Responses to rotation following the caloric habituation showed almost no change; i.e. there was no apparent stimulus generalization. Some possible causes for the failure to obtain transfer were examined. Additional unilateral caloric trials confirmed reports that the reduction of nystagmus is specific to the direction elicited during habituation trials.

TL;DR: A two-step detection/tracking method using a support vector machine with size-normalized pedestrian candidates and a combination of Kalman filter prediction and mean shift tracking for nonrigid nature of human appearance on the road is proposed.
Abstract: This paper presents a method for pedestrian detection and tracking using a single night-vision video camera installed on the vehicle. To deal with the nonrigid nature of human appearance on the road, a two-step detection/tracking method is proposed. The detection phase is performed by a support vector machine (SVM) with size-normalized pedestrian candidates and the tracking phase is a combination of Kalman filter prediction and mean shift tracking. The detection phase is further strengthened by information obtained by a road-detection module that provides key information for pedestrian validation. Experimental comparisons (e.g., grayscale SVM recognition versus binary SVM recognition and entire-body detection versus upper-body detection) have been carried out to illustrate the feasibility of our approach.

TL;DR: In this article, data were collected on Sandhill Crane (Grus canadensis) collisions involving a 69kV transmission line crossing the Platte River in Nebraska, USA, at a major migration stopover area.
Abstract: . Collisions with power lines are a widely documented cause of avian mortality. Estimating total mortalities from counts of carcasses is usually accomplished by quantifying biasing factors, but neither crippling nor nocturnal biases are well understood. From 4 March through 13 April 2009, data were collected on Sandhill Crane (Grus canadensis) collisions involving a 69-kV transmission line crossing the Platte River in Nebraska, USA, at a major migration stopover area. The line was marked with devices designed to increase visibility to Sandhill Cranes, and thus reduce collisions. Numbers of carcasses detected via traditional searches that involved walking slowly in a zigzag pattern beneath the line were compared to numbers of collisions visually observed through binoculars and night vision spotting scopes and numbers of collisions detected by electronic Bird Strike Indicators (BSI). Seventeen carcasses were found during traditional surveys, 117 collisions were observed visually, and 321 collisions ...

TL;DR: In this article, a double-spectrum night vision instrument vehicle-mounted system and a double spectrum fusion design method were presented, and the system consisted of an infrared double spectrum imaging die set used for imaging of a visible spectrum and an infrared spectrum.
Abstract: The invention discloses a double-spectrum night vision instrument vehicle-mounted system and a double-spectrum fusion design method. The system comprises an infrared double-spectrum imaging die set used for imaging of a visible spectrum and an infrared spectrum and for collection, processing, fusion and transmission of the image data, an image receiving system used for completing the receiving of the image data, a display terminal used for displaying the images for an observer, and a control terminal used for controlling the function and on-off of an imaging mode. Due to the adoption of the system and the method, the problem that coaxial imaging of the double spectrum image is slight bad is solved, the machining precision requirement of the imaging system is reduced, more clear images are provided for forward observation for a train; a fusion method based on a scene moving object provides a reference source for the double-spectrum imaging system, the computation load is reduced, the registering reliability is improved, the imaging on the hardware is convenient, and the real-time performance is possessed; a weight fusion method based on multi-scale bilateral filtering is simple and feasible, improves the imaging detail information and reduces the calculation ability.
