TL;DR: It is concluded that liposomes and niosomes may become a useful dosage form for a variety of dermally active compounds, specifically due to their ability to modulate drug transfer and serve as nontoxic penetration enhancers.

TL;DR: This work has provided an illustrated and comprehensive study from the view of a supramolecular chemist, interested in the synthesizing and studying chemical aggregates on the nanoscale for the development of nanotechnological clusters including niosomes.

TL;DR: In this article, a review of the application of surfactant self-assembly objects as agents for drug delivery that are an alternative to micellar, lamellar (liposome, niosome and transfersome) or microemulsion-based vehicles is presented.
Abstract: The past decade has been witness to a new impetus in surfactant self-assembly objects as agents for drug delivery that are an alternative to micellar, lamellar (liposome, niosome and transfersome) or microemulsion-based vehicles. The review focus herein is on the application of hexagonal, cubic, ‘intermediate’ (viz. rhombohedral, tetragonal and monoclinic) and L 3 (‘sponge’) mesophases.
