Abstract: The temperature required for the anodic conversion of an organo-solv spruce lignin, in aqueous alkaline solution, may be lowered by the addition of nitrobenzene or 1,3-dinitrobenzene. The additives cause significant and reproducible changes in the Tafel plot for the reaction. Preparativescale experiments are less reproducible although the range of phenolic products is generally similar to that produced by conventional nitrobenzene oxidation or by anodic oxidation at higher temperatures.

Abstract: Extraction of microamounts of europium and americium by a nitrobenzene solution of hydrogen dicarbollylcobaltate (H+B−) in the presence of N,N,N′,N′-tetraethyl-2,6-dipicolinamide (TEtDPA, L) has been investigated. The equilibrium data have been explained assuming that the cations HL+, HL23+, ML23+ and ML33+ (M3+ = Eu3+, Am3+) are extracted into the organic phase. The values of extraction and stability constants of the species in nitrobenzene saturated with water have been determined. It has been found that the stability constants of the corresponding complexes EuLn,org3+ and AmLn,org3+, where n = 2, 3 and L is TEtDPA, in the mentioned medium are comparable.

TL;DR: In the catalytic hydrogenation of nitrobenzene, the calcined Pt-MCM-41 meso-materials, like the corresponding reduced samples, exhibit high catalytic activities with an excellent selectivity to aniline, which are much better than those of the reduced Pt/MCm-41 prepared by the incipient wetness method.
