01 Apr 1987TL;DR: Two methods for improving the accuracy of an LPC vector-quantization speech recognizer by adapting the vector codebook to noisy conditions by changing the way people speak in noise are reported.
Abstract: Speech recognizers trained in quiet conditions but operating in noise usually have poor accuracy. This paper reports two methods for improving the accuracy of an LPC vector-quantization speech recognizer by adapting the vector codebook to noisy conditions. First, each codebook vector is changed to reflect the way people speak in noise. Second, the estimated spectrum of the background noise is added to the codebook vectors. These ideas have been tested on a total of 2400 utterances of digits recorded in a car by 4 speakers. A baseline word spotter similar to NTT's SPLIT system was modified by adapting its vector codebook to noise. This adapted codebook, when used with a new word decision criterion, yields error rates at least 4 times lower for noisy conditions. The accuracy is significantly better than without codebook adaptation techniques.

TL;DR: The Deutscher Ldrmschutzverband which he founded represented not only a reformist crusade for quiet, but also a fundamental critique of the modernization process itself and of the ideas which promoted it.
Abstract: to Hindenburg’s presidency, and who was assassinated in exile in Czechoslovakia by two local Nazis in 1933. This legacy, as well as the reputation of his books on historicism, Jewish self-hatred, and European and Asian culture, have obscured his role as a pioneer in the noise abatement movement at the beginning of the twentieth century. To Lessing, the din of the metropolis was an effect and a cause of the degeneration of the quality of life in Western civilization. The Deutscher Ldrmschutzverband which he founded represented not only a reformist crusade for quiet, but also a fundamental critique of the modernization process itself and of the ideas which promoted it.4 4

06 Nov 2009TL;DR: In this paper, a signal processing apparatus includes a first audio adjustment information generator, a second audio adjustment generator, and an audio adjustment unit adjusting a volume of the audio signal output in the sound output unit in accordance with the first and second audio adjustments.
Abstract: A signal processing apparatus includes a first audio adjustment information generator generating a first audio adjustment information in accordance with an audio signal in a content item, a sound input unit, a sound output unit, an audio separator separating the audio signal from noise signals which are both output from the sound output unit and are detected by the sound input unit, a second audio adjustment information generator generating a second audio adjustment information in accordance with the noise signals separated by the audio separator, and an audio adjustment unit adjusting a volume of the audio signal output in the sound output unit in accordance with the first and second audio adjustment information.

TL;DR: This paper presents a new lossless audio steganography approach based on Integer-to-Integer Lifting Wavelet Transform (Int2Int LWT) and Least Significant Bits (LSBs) substitution that has excellent transparency and robustness tests show immunity of the method against additive noise and perceptual statistical analysis.
Abstract: This paper presents a new lossless audio steganography approach based on Integer-to-Integer Lifting Wavelet Transform (Int2Int LWT) and Least Significant Bits (LSBs) substitution. In order to increase the security level a simple encryption with adaptive key has been proposed. The experimental results show that this approach has excellent transparency (above 45 dB of signal to noise ratio) with fixed high embedding capacity (25% from the audio cover signal size) and full recovery for the hidden secret message. Furthermore, robustness tests show immunity of the method against additive noise and perceptual statistical analysis. The proposed hiding and recovery procedures are simple and symmetry; therefore it can be easily used for real-time covert communication.

TL;DR: A spectral sharpening process suitable for speech enhancement and noise reduction is presented and a particular characteristic of the approach is its virtually delayless performance and its structure which easily lends itself to integration.
Abstract: A spectral sharpening process suitable for speech enhancement and noise reduction is presented. The speech enhancement feature is an efficient precompensation technique for the reduced frequency selectivity encountered among many hearing impaired people. The noise reduction scheme has wider applications. A particular characteristic of the approach is its virtually delayless performance and its structure which easily lends itself to integration. >
