18 Apr 1991TL;DR: In this article, a stereo detector and a signal combiner are used to combine the highpass filtered sideband signal with each of the lowpass filtered left and right stereo audio signals.
Abstract: A receiver for receiving a stereophonic signal with upper and lower sidebands carrying a modulating signal includes independent sideband circuitry for providing upper and lower sideband signals. Selector circuitry responds to the level of audible noise in each of the upper and lower sideband signals for selecting that one of the sideband signals having a lower level of audible noise relative to the other. An ISB highpass filter filters the latter sideband signal to provide a highpass filtered sideband signal. Stereo detector circuitry provides left and right stereophonic audio signals. At least one audio lowpass filter filters the left and right stereophonic signals to provide corresponding lowpass filtered left and right stereophonic audio signals. At least one signal combiner combines the highpass filtered sideband signal with each of the lowpass filtered left and right stereophonic audio signals to provide corresponding composite left and right audio signals.

TL;DR: In this article, the recording density limit of a near-field optical memory that uses a photochromic medium was theoretically studied by use of Shannon's information theory, and shot noise and material noise were taken into account in the analysis of the signal-to-noise ratio.
Abstract: The recording density limit of a near-field optical memory that uses a photochromic medium was theoretically studied by use of Shannon’s information theory. Shot noise and material noise were taken into account in the analysis of the signal-to-noise ratio. The conventional recording density limit, which is defined by the inverse of the minimum recorded mark area, and Shannon’s recording density limit were evaluated. The conventional recording density limit was 1011–1012 bits/cm2, and Shannon’s recording density limit was 1012–1013 bits/cm2.

TL;DR: By two years of age, infants show less vulnerability to the disruptive effects of background noise, compared to infants under 12 months, and speech-in-noise electrophysiology can be easily recorded across infancy and provides unique insights into developmental differences that tests conducted in quiet may miss.

15 Mar 2012TL;DR: Experimental results show that the DCT-SVD method has good imperceptibility and is robust against different kinds of attacks such as noise adding, re-sampling, cropping.
Abstract: Digital Audio Watermarking involves the concealment of data within a discrete audio file. Intellectual property protection is the main driving force behind research in this area. So, an efficient yet simple audio watermarking algorithm in the frequency domain by embedding a visual watermark in the audio signal is proposed. Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) along with Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) is used to embed the watermark image into the audio signal. Similarly, Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and SVD is used as another technique. The performance of the two techniques is evaluated based on PSNR, MOS criteria and Pearson Correlation Coefficient (PCC). Experimental results show that the DCT-SVD method has good imperceptibility and is robust against different kinds of attacks such as noise adding, re-sampling, cropping.

05 Dec 1999TL;DR: An analytical approach is used for performance evaluation of different partial response systems in the presence of signal-dependent noise, providing a fast and accurate performance estimation at an arbitrary error rate, avoiding the time consuming simulation approach.
Abstract: An analytical approach is used for performance evaluation of different partial response systems in the presence of signal-dependent noise. The signal-dependent noise is modeled by the decomposition of medium noise into peak jitter and pulse width fluctuation. The computation technique takes into account all factors that affect the error rate, such as the distance and multiplicity of an error event, the equalization error and the effect of coding schemes. It provides a fast and accurate performance estimation at an arbitrary error rate, avoiding the time consuming simulation approach.
