TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a low-variance and adaptive-bandwidth spectral estimator for spectral subtraction, which is based on the two-stage spectral estimation (TSSE) and the modified cepstrum thresholding (MCT).

01 Nov 2006TL;DR: The experimental results showed that the proposed wind noise reduction method achieved much better improvement than conventional spectral subtraction.
Abstract: Wind noise affects the quality of the speech recording in the field. In this paper, we propose a wind noise reduction method based on a signal processing technique. In the method, spectrum envelopes of wind noise are estimated by using referential multiple wind noise templates and the low frequency band spectrum envelope of the observed signal. Then, we estimate the noise spectrum using the estimated spectrum envelope and the fine structure of the observed signal. Finally, we subtract this estimated noise spectrum from the observed signal. For evaluating the proposed method, we conducted subjective and objective evaluation. The experimental results showed that the proposed method achieved much better improvement than conventional spectral subtraction.

29 Aug 2008TL;DR: In this article, a spectral noise power density estimation unit, a correction term processor, and a combination processor are used to estimate the spectral signal power density of an audio signal, which can be used for subsequent signal processing to enhance a desired signal component of the audio signal.
Abstract: A system estimates the spectral noise power density of an audio signal includes a spectral noise power density estimation unit, a correction term processor, and a combination processor. The spectral noise power density estimation unit may provide a first estimate of the spectral noise power density of the audio signal. The correction term processor may provide a time dependent correction term based, at least in part, on a spectral noise power density estimation error of the actual spectral noise power density. The correction term may be determined so that the spectral noise power density estimation error is reduced. The combination processor may combine the first estimate with the correction term to obtain a second estimate of the spectral noise power density that may be used for subsequent signal processing to enhance a desired signal component of the audio signal.

TL;DR: Significant improvement in Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI) and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) scores was found as early as 1 month of treatment and later compared with those on initial examination, suggesting that TRT with a TCI may be an effective treatment for tinnitus.

TL;DR: The impulse noise data collected so far indicates that signal processing techniques like forward error correction block coding will be needed in ADSL electronics to mitigate this noise impairment.
Abstract: Wideband impulse noise and background noise measurements have been taken on copper telephone loops terminating at three New Jersey residences. An analysis of these measurements is presented. This analysis constitutes a preliminary characterization of wideband noise at residential locations and is an important factor in determining some of the signal processing needs of asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) systems. The impulse noise data collected so far indicates that signal processing techniques like forward error correction block coding will be needed in ADSL electronics to mitigate this noise impairment. The analysis of the measurements is presented in three ways: as power or energy spectral densities, as probability density functions of the time waveform voltage amplitudes, and as impulse arrival and interarrival time statistics. >
