TL;DR: In this paper, an active noise control (ANC) system with a plurality of microphones and a multiplicity of loudspeakers is described. And the adaptive filter bank is configured to filter the reference signal to provide the loudspeaker signals as filtered signals.
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an active noise control (ANC) system. In accordance with one aspect of the invention, the ANC system includes a plurality of microphones and a plurality of loudspeakers. Each microphone is configured to provide an error signal that represents a residual noise signal. Each loudspeaker is configured to receive a loudspeaker signal and to radiate a respective acoustic signal. The ANC system further includes an adaptive filter bank, which is supplied with a reference signal and configured to filter the reference signal to provide the loudspeaker signals as filtered signals. The filter characteristics of the adaptive filter bank are adapted such that a cost function is minimized. The cost function thereby represents the weighted sum of the squared error signals.

TL;DR: In this article, a dual microphone noise reduction system using spectral subtraction algorithms using linear convolution, causal filtering and/or spectrum dependent exponential averaging of the spectral subraction gain function is described.
Abstract: Speech enhancement is provided in dual microphone noise reduction systems by including spectral subtraction algorithms using linear convolution, causal filtering and/or spectrum dependent exponential averaging of the spectral subtraction gain function. According to exemplary embodiments, when a far-mouth microphone is used in conjunction with a near-mouth microphone, it is possible to handle non-stationary background noise as long as the noise spectrum can continuously be estimated from a single block of input samples. The far-mouth microphone, in addition to picking up the background noise, also picks up the speaker's voice, albeit at a lower level than the near-mouth microphone. To enhance the noise estimate, a spectral subtraction stage is used to suppress the speech in the far-mouth microphone signal. To be able to enhance the noise estimate, a rough speech estimate is formed with another spectral subtraction stage from the near-mouth signal. Finally, a third spectral subtraction function is used to enhance the near-mouth signal by suppressing the background noise using the enhanced background noise estimate.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method, apparatus, and computer program to selectively suppress wind noise while preserving narrow-band signals in acoustic data is presented, which overcomes prior art limitations that require more than one microphone and an independent measurement of wind speed.
Abstract: The invention includes a method, apparatus, and computer program to selectively suppress wind noise while preserving narrow-band signals in acoustic data. Sound from one or several microphones is digitized into binary data. A time-frequency transform is applied to the data to produce a series of spectra. The spectra are analyzed to detect the presence of wind noise and narrow band signals. Wind noise is selectively suppressed while preserving the narrow band signals. The narrow band signal is interpolated through the times and frequencies when it is masked by the wind noise. A time series is then synthesized from the signal spectral estimate that can be listened to. This invention overcomes prior art limitations that require more than one microphone and an independent measurement of wind speed. Its application results in good-quality speech from data severely degraded by wind noise.

TL;DR: The performance of a developed noise-estimation technique using data masking in the presence of simulated additive and multiplicative noise is described, which compares favourably with existing noise-ESTimation techniques under low to moderate noise conditions.
Abstract: Estimation of noise contained within a remote sensing image is essential in order to counter the effects of noise contamination. The application of convolution data-masking techniques can effectively portray the influence of noise. In this paper, we describe the performance of a developed noise-estimation technique using data masking in the presence of simulated additive and multiplicative noise. The estimation method employs Laplacian and gradient data masks, and takes advantage of the correlation properties typical of remote sensing imagery. The technique is applied to typical textural images that serve to demonstrate its effectiveness. The algorithm is tested using Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) and Shuttle Imaging Radar (SIR-C) imagery. The algorithm compares favourably with existing noise-estimation techniques under low to moderate noise conditions.

TL;DR: In this paper, an active noise cancellation system that reduces, at a listening position, power of a noise signal radiated from a noise source to the listening position is described. But, the system requires an adaptive filter, at least one acoustic actuator and a signal processing device.
Abstract: An active noise cancellation system that reduces, at a listening position, power of a noise signal radiated from a noise source to the listening position. The system includes an adaptive filter, at least one acoustic actuator and a signal processing device. The adaptive filter receives a reference signal representing the noise signal, and provides a compensation signal. The at least one acoustic actuator radiates the compensation signal to the listening position. The signal processing device evaluates and assesses the stability of the adaptive filter.
