Abstract: Previous efforts to synthesize information on community responses to various noise sources have been forced to rely on a variety of surveys conducted in different countries over a number of years. Comparability of both the noise measurements and the questions asked has been limited, and has of necessity relied on professional judgment. Data collected recently around Toronto International Airport provide a direct comparison of response to two sources, based on 673 interviews of persons exposed to a variety of levels of both aircraft and road traffic noise. The results of that analysis do not support the assumption that response to these two noise sources is the same. For the same value of Ldn, a greater percentage of the sample is highly annoyed by aircraft noise than by road traffic noise. Possible reasons for this contradiction of the results of a previous synthesis of noise surveys are discussed.

Abstract: This study presents the result of a traffic simulation analysis based on Floating Car Data and a noise emission assessment to show the impact of mobility restriction for COVID-19 containment on urban vehicular traffic and road noise pollution on the road network of Rome, Italy The adoption of strong and severe measures to contain the spreading of Coronavirus during March-April 2020 generated a significant reduction in private vehicle trips in the city of Rome (-646% during the lockdown) Traffic volumes, obtained through a simulation approach, were used as input parameters for a noise emission assessment conducted using the CNOSSOS-EU method, and an overall noise emissions reduction on the entire road network was found, even if its extent varied between road types

Abstract: Noise pollution and its influence on environment and life quality of human beings may be considered as a hot topic in scientific research. Since there are no sufficient studies on noise pollution in Turkey, this study was carried out to determine motorway noise levels in Tokat city centre, located at the northern part of Turkey. Noise measurements were taken in the evening to determine noise pollution all over the city as motorway transportation noise. The equivalent sound levels - Leq- were measured at 65 points, between 17 and 19 p.m. in the city. High noise levels on these streets were observed throughout the city. At fifty of sixty-five measurement points (76.9%), noise values exceeded 65 dB(A), limit value according to Turkish noise control regulation, while at fifteen points (23.1%) this value was under this value. Statistical analysis revealed that, there were significant differences in noise levels amaong the streets (P < 0.05). The results showed that noise should be mentioned among the major environmental problems and studies aim at preventing it should have great priority. Abstract: A number of studies have been conducted in recent years investigating the potential effects on various health endpoints of the combination of noise and a variety of different industrial substances. This review indicates that the information available in both animals and humans on this subject is limited particularly with respect to assessing occupational risk. Most studies have focused on auditory effects in animals, although investigations have been performed for other toxicological endpoints. For some substances, notably toluene, the information from animals studies does suggest an interaction but these were performed only at exposure levels to both noise and chemicals which were each individually ototoxic. Single simultaneous exposure to noise and styrene did not result in any enhancement of auditory impairment above that produced by noise or styrene alone. Single simultaneous exposure to noise and carbon monoxide (CO), however, showed some evidence of enhancement of ototoxicity beyond that produced by noise or carbon monoxide alone, although only at high atmospheric concentrations of CO. When 1,3-dinitrobenzene was administered parentally at neurotoxic dose levels with continuous noise exposure, there was an increased severity of effects in the brain stem. Combined exposure to noise and lead and/or cadmium resulted in histopathological heart lesions of undefined severity, a finding which was not observed for either of those agents in isolation. Dermal exposure to dimethylformamide and noise or inhalation exposure to xylene and noise resulted in some biochemical changes in cardiac muscle which were of doubtful toxicological significance. In developing mice, there was evidence that combined exposure to cadmium sulphate and noise caused an increased incidence of external and skeletal malformations but only at dose levels of cadmium which would have induced developmental effects. Overall, for each of these chemicals and endpoints observed there is a suggestion of some interaction with noise exposure. From the data that are currently available, however, inferences cannot be drawn on whether or not interactions would have occurred at lower, more occupationally relevant, levels of exposure. A number of studies have investigated human populations exposed to both noise and industrial chemicals. Due to confounding factors, however, it was concluded that these data were inadequate for assessing the combined effects of noise and chemical exposure on hearing.

Abstract: This study offers a combined analysis of pedestrian exposure to noise and air pollution within a specific urban setting in Dublin, Ireland. The impact of a recent boardwalk development on reducing pedestrian exposure to air and noise pollution is examined while modelling experiments are undertaken to explore the possibility of achieving further reductions in pollutant exposure through better urban design and planning. The results show that the boardwalk has reduced pedestrian exposure to air and noise pollution and that further reductions may be achieved by more strict segregation of pedestrian and road traffic in urban areas.
