TL;DR: The investigation on effectiveness of the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) with non-local mean (NLM) technique by using the value of differential standard deviation for denoising of ECG signal is performed and shows lesser standard deviation PRD, MSE, and SNR improvement compared to other well-known methods at different input SNR.

TL;DR: A spectral-spatial kernel regularization is proposed to maintain the spectral correlations in spectral dimension and to match the original structure between two spatial dimensions and an adaptive mechanism is developed to balance the fidelity term according to different noise distributions in each band.
Abstract: Noise contamination is a ubiquitous problem in hyperspectral images (HSIs), which is a challenging and promising theme in many remote sensing applications. A large number of methods have been proposed to remove noise. Unfortunately, most denoising methods fail to take full advantages of the high spectral correlation and to simultaneously consider the specific noise distributions in HSIs. Recently, a spectral–spatial adaptive hyperspectral total variation (SSAHTV) was proposed and obtained promising results. However, the SSAHTV model is insensitive to the image details, which makes the edges blur. To overcome all of these drawbacks, a spectral–spatial kernel method for HSI denoising is proposed in this paper. The proposed method is inspired by the observation that the spectral–spatial information is highly redundant in HSIs, which is sufficient to estimate the clear images. In this paper, a spectral–spatial kernel regularization is proposed to maintain the spectral correlations in spectral dimension and to match the original structure between two spatial dimensions. Moreover, an adaptive mechanism is developed to balance the fidelity term according to different noise distributions in each band. Therefore, it cannot only suppress noise in the high-noise band but also preserve information in the low-noise band. The reliability of the proposed method in removing noise is experimentally proved on both simulated data and real data.

TL;DR: In this article, a coupled microphone-accelerometer sensor pair, intended to facilitate noise reduction, was designed and tested on a below-elbow amputee, demonstrating clear distinction between motion artefact and useful mechanomyography (MMG) signals.
Abstract: External noise sources such as movement artefact may interfere with mechanomyography (MMG) signal recording, compromising signal detection for electrically-powered prosthesis control. A novel coupled microphone-accelerometer sensor pair, intended to facilitate noise reduction, was designed and tested on a below-elbow amputee. Sample recordings demonstrate clear distinction between motion artefact and useful MMG signals.

TL;DR: In this article, an apparatus and a method to generate low power ultrasonic, echograph images of selected stationary and moving target objects having high resolution was presented, which can be used as a clinical diagnostic tool for generating non-traumatic, high resolution imaging of bodily tissue.
Abstract: An apparatus and method to generate low power ultrasonic, echograph images of selected stationary and moving target objects having high resolution. The apparatus and method include: an apparatus for transmitting a plurality of ultrasonic signals into a selected area of tissue, and apparatus for receiving the corresponding ultrasonic echo signals for each of the transmitted signals. A correlator autocorrelates and cross-correlates the transmitted and received ultrasonic signals. The correlated signals are summed, combined in ratios and partitioned into visibility amplitude data, visibility phase data, differential phase data, closure amplitude data and closure phase data for mapping. The preferred apparatus and method thereafter perform a non-linear image processing, either by an iterative side lobe subtraction signal processing procedure to remove signal noise and/or by an interative hybrid mapping signal processing procedure. The resulting data map yields a high resolution image of the selected target with more data and less noise. Signal processing to show motion or target object changes after noise reduction is also disclosed. In a preferred embodiment, the apparatus and method is employed as a clinical diagnostic tool for generating non-traumatic, high resolution imaging of bodily tissue.

TL;DR: The influence of noise on the clustering of files of different types is explored, finding that the NCD performs well even in the presence of quite high noise levels.
Abstract: This correspondence studies the influence of noise on the normalized compression distance (NCD), a measure based on the use of compressors to compute the degree of similarity of two files. This influence is approximated by a first order differential equation which gives rise to a complex effect, which explains the fact that the NCD may give values greater than 1, observed by other authors. The model is tested experimentally with good adjustment. Finally, the influence of noise on the clustering of files of different types is explored, finding that the NCD performs well even in the presence of quite high noise levels
