Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain easily in high yield the titled compound useful as a heat accumulating agent of organic photochemistry applicable to solar energy use system, by reacting a propalgyl alcohol derivative with cyclopentadiene by the use of a specific catalyst. CONSTITUTION:2mol propalgyl alcohol shown by the formula I (R is H, alkyl, or acyl) is reacted with 1mol cyclopentadiene by the use of a tertiary butyl group- containing phenol shown by the formula II (R1 is tertiary butyl) such as 2,4,6- tert-butylphenol, etc. or a p-cresol shown by the formula III such as 2,6-di-tert- butyl-p-cresol, etc. at 100-200 deg.C for 20hr, to give the desired compound shown by the formula IV. An amount of the catalyst used is sufficiently 1-20mol% based on cyclopentadiene. EFFECT:The titled derivative hardly showing a bad smell peculiar to norbornadiene, and having partially aroma is obtained.

Abstract: Polyamides bearing norbornadiene (NBD) unit were prepared by the reaction of either bis(p-nitrophenyl) 2,3-NBD-dicarboxylate or a mixed anhydride bearing at the NBD moiety with various diamines. Films made of the polyamides indicated reversible UV-spectrum changes with UV irradiation, suggesting the occurrence of the photo-valence isomerization between the NBD and quadricyclane units.

Abstract: This chapter summarizes the recent progress in the area of exoselective synthesis of polyfluorinated tricyclo[4.2.1.0 2.5 ]non-7-enes (tricyclononenes) and bicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-enes (norbornenes). The overview of the synthesis polyfluorinated exo- tricyclononenes by reactions of quadricyclane and to lesser extend, norbornadiene is given in the first part of the review. The second part contains information on stereoselective synthesis of polyfluorinated exo- norbornenes and transformations of exo- tricyclononenes.
