TL;DR: In this article, a poly(norbornene)-and poly(cyclooctene)-based copolymers, bearing carbazole and 8-hydroxyquinoline side chains, were prepared.
Abstract: Poly(norbornene)- and poly(cyclooctene)-based copolymers, bearing carbazole and 8-hydroxyquinoline side chains, were prepared. Upon complexation of the pendant quinoline ligands in the side chain with ytterbium followed by the addition of 2 equiv of additional quinolines, infrared-emitting copolymers that emit around 970 nm were obtained. The emission intensities increased linearly as the density of lanthanide−quinolate complexes increased in the copolymers. Finally, we were able to prove that the polymer backbones do not interfere with the optical properties of the polymers, suggesting that these polymers are outstanding materials as IR emitters.

TL;DR: In this article, the performance of niobium-based catalysts for the polymerization of olefins has been discussed, with particular reference to the evolution of the approach to the design of these systems, starting from isoelectronic, isolobal or isostructural relationships with Group 4 metallocene catalysts.

TL;DR: In this article, a ring-opening metathesis polymerization was used to obtain high molecular weight renewable homopolymers and block copolymers derived from natural rosin, which exhibit structure-dependent glass transition temperatures, excellent thermal stabilities, and thermoplastic properties.
Abstract: Utilization of biomass for commodity polymers has gained tremendous interest. We report a method to prepare high molecular weight renewable homopolymers and block copolymers derived from natural rosin. Monomers with high renewable content (70 wt %) were prepared via a simple esterification reaction between dehydroabietic alcohol and 5-exo-norbornenecarboxylic acid. Living and controlled polymerization of these monomers were achieved by ring-opening metathesis polymerization to obtain polymers with molecular weight up to ∼500 kg/mol. These homopolymers exhibit structure-dependent glass transition temperatures, excellent thermal stabilities, and thermoplastic properties. Chain entanglement molecular weight was determined via rheological assessments for such polymers with bulky side moieties. Using the living ROMP, dehydroabietic-based homopolymer was chain-extended with a soybean oil-derived norbornene monomer to yield triblock copolymers, which showed behaviors of thermoplastic elastomers.

TL;DR: In this paper, a facile reaction of o-alkylated aryl iodides, o-bromoarenesulfonylanilines and activated olefins in the presence of palladium and norbornene as catalysts is presented.
Abstract: Selectively substituted phenanthridine derivatives are obtained by a facile reaction of o-alkylated aryl iodides, o-bromoarenesulfonylanilines and activated olefins in the presence of palladium and norbornene as catalysts. The reaction takes place under mild conditions to give the products in satisfactory yields using readily available starting materials.
