TL;DR: A liquid droplet jetting apparatus as discussed by the authors includes a jetting head unit which has a nozzle which jets droplets of a liquid, and a heat generating section, a suction port which is formed in the jetting unit, and which opens near the nozzle.
Abstract: A liquid droplet jetting apparatus includes a jetting head unit which has a nozzle which jets droplets of a liquid, and a heat generating section, a suction port which is formed in the jetting head unit, and which opens near the nozzle, and a suction device which sucks air around the nozzle from the suction port, and cools down the heat generating section of the jetting head unit by the air which is sucked. Since the heat generating portion is cooled down by the air sucked from the suction port by the suction device, it is possible to reduce a possibility of the heat of the heat generating section being transferred to the jetting head unit, and destabilizing an operation of the jetting head unit. Moreover, since the suction port opens near the nozzle, it is possible to suck fine liquid droplets together with air around the nozzle.

TL;DR: In this paper, a three-dimensional (3D) multi-phase gas-powder flow structures of radially symmetrical nozzles are modeled using computational fluid dynamics methods.
Abstract: Laser-based direct metal deposition (DMD) is a solid freeform fabrication process capable of fabricating fully dense and metallurgically sound parts. The process has been greatly enhanced toward multi-directional deposition by the use of discontinuous radially symmetrical powder nozzles to supply the build material. Since many operational parameters depend on the gas–powder stream characteristics between the nozzles and the deposition point, an extensive understanding of the gas–powder flow is necessary. Three-dimensional (3D) multi-phase gas–powder flow structures of radially symmetrical nozzles are modeled using computational fluid dynamics methods. The obtained results are in good agreement with the experimental ones, and they provide a good insight into the process phenomena.

TL;DR: An apparatus for forming a coating film, consisting of a spin chuck for supporting a substrate with one surface facing upward and rotating the substrate about a vertical axis, is described in this article.
Abstract: An apparatus for forming a coating film, comprises a spin chuck for supporting a substrate with one surface facing upward and rotating the substrate about a vertical axis, a first nozzle for supplying a solvent of a coating solution on the substrate, and a second nozzle for supplying the coating solution on a central portion of the substrate. The first and second nozzles are supported by a head such that the supported nozzle moves between a dropping position above the substrate and a waiting position offset from the substrate. The solvent and coating solution are diffused along the surface of the substrate by rotating the spin chuck.

TL;DR: In this paper, a dual-mode electrosurgical pencil for tissue cutting and coagulation is presented, where the electrode (12) extends beyond the nozzle (14) in the first mode for direct tissue contact and is nested within the nozzle in the second mode to accommodate laminar gas stream flow for effective gas-enhanced fulguration.
Abstract: A novel dual mode electrosurgical pencil (10) is provided for conventional tissue cutting/coagulation use in a first mode of operation, and gas-enhanced coagulation by fulguration in a second mode of operation. The electrode (12) and nozzle (14) of the pencil (10) are provided in a manner that permits relative positioning thereof, wherein the electrode (12) extends sufficiently beyond the nozzle (14) in the first mode for direct tissue contact, and is sufficiently nested within the nozzle (14) in the second mode to accommodate laminar gas stream flow for effective gas-enhanced fulguration. In a preferred embodiment, a spring (68) is utilized to maintain the nozzle (14) in a retracted position during first mode use, and the pressure of an inert gas supply (76) is utilized to move the nozzle (14) from a retracted first mode position to a protracted second mode position. First and second mode control switches (38, 40) are provided on the gripping portion of the novel pencil in the preferred embodiment.
