TL;DR: A method of detecting and measuring objects for the purpose of representing three-dimensional outdoor scenes, using data such as that obtained from stereo vision or from a scanning laser rangefinder, is described.
Abstract: A method of detecting and measuring objects for the purpose of representing three-dimensional outdoor scenes, using data such as that obtained from stereo vision or from a scanning laser rangefinder, is described. Objects are approximated by ellipsoids. Segmentation of the objects from the background and from each other is done by finding the ground surface, forming a preliminary segmentation by clustering the points above the ground by more than a threshold, fitting ellipsoids to match these clusters and to avoid obscuring the other points, and adjusting the clusters according to the fits. The method is designed to produce results useful for obstacle avoidance and navigation in an exploring vehicle, such as a Mars rover. An example is given showing results obtained from a stereo pair of pictures of Mars from the Viking Lander.

TL;DR: In this paper, a detection area of the approaching object was obtained by empoloying the signals from car speed sensor and steering angle sensor, thereby deciding whether there is such an object in said area and functioning an alarm means if any.
Abstract: PURPOSE: To alarm only the approaching of an object, which really requires attension by obtaining a detection area of the approaching object by empoloying the signals from car speed sensor and steering angle sensor, thereby deciding whether there is such an object in said area and functioning an alarm means if any. CONSTITUTION: When the car 1 shown by solid line OCPQ moves in the direction of steering angle θ at speed V, the object detection area at V=O is shown by OABC while the position of detection area after elapsing time to is shown by O'A'DC. The detection area as of the car is in the position of solid line is approximately shown by OADE, thereby when previously providing the area at V=O the area OADE can be obtained and the existence of an object in said region is detected to produce an alarm. In other word the outputs from an object detector 3, can speed sensor 4 and steering angle sensor 5 are sent to the controller 2 where said calculation is performed. Thereafter the command signal for detection operation is produced in accordance with the operation of direction indicating sensor 6 to function the indicator 7 and the alarm 8. TL;DR: This chapter discusses electronic image processing in medicine with a focus on operations which include image partitioning, object detection, and object identification.
Abstract: This chapter discusses electronic image processing in medicine. Electronic image processing includes: (1) electronic display; (2) automatic display enhancement; (3) automatic image analysis. The word ‘analysis’ implies operations which include image partitioning, object detection, and object identification. Although this chapter is primarily concerned with item (3), items (1) and (2) are briefly discussed.

TL;DR: In this article, an improved portable detection system incorporates a clock generator to produce a periodic signal that enables the user to properly pace his sweep and more readily identify targets in a first searching mode of operation.
Abstract: An improved portable detection system incorporates a clock generator to produce a periodic signal that enables the user to properly pace his sweep and more readily identify targets in a first searching mode of operation. In the first mode, the detected signal is compared with an updated background developed from the previous sweeps, thus reducing the possibility of false alarms or missed targets. In a second pinpointing mode, background updating is discontinued and the developed background is used for target pinpointing. In this mode, a modified audio presentation is used which reduces hearing hazards associated with conventional variable tone presentations and enables easier target location.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose to dispense with wiring for signals and simplify the wiring by providing leads to a detector and a control unit and transmitting detection signals through these leads to the power line transmitting means.

TL;DR: In this article, a statistical model for simultaneous detection and single parameter estimation of a stochastic signal against background noise is obtained and two strategies, Bayes and maximum likelihood, are discussed.
Abstract: A statistical model for simultaneous detection and single parameter estimation of a stochastic signal against background noise is obtained. Two strategies, Bayes and maximum likelihood, are discussed. The detection of an optical point source imaged on a photosensitive surface and the estimation of its intensity based on such strategies are examined. An almost optimum estimate is also proposed and its statistical properties are studied.
