TL;DR: In this paper, the authors report a series of experiments investigating the role of spatiotemporal forms in the production of movement sequences and show that motor equivalence is achieved through relying on effector-independent spatioteme forms.
Abstract: Previous research suggests that motor equivalence is achieved through reliance on effector-independent spatiotemporal forms. Here the authors report a series of experiments investigating the role of such forms in the production of movement sequences. Participants were asked to complete series of arm movements in time with a metronome and, on some trials, with an obstacle between 1 or more of the target pairs. In moves following an obstacle, participants only gradually reduced the peak heights of their manual jumping movements. This hand path priming effect, scaled with obstacle height, was preserved when participants cleared the obstacle with 1 hand and continued with the other, and it was modulated by future task demands. The results are consistent with the hypothesis that the control of movement sequences relies on abstract spatiotemporal forms. The data also support the view that motor programming is largely achieved by changing just those features that distinguish the next movement to be made from the movement that was just made.

TL;DR: In this paper, an obstacle detection means detects an obstacle and a driving operation support unit determines a target locus which prevents the host vehicle from moving into the presumed action range or to a position where the action probability is high.
Abstract: According to the present invention, an obstacle detection means detects an obstacle. An action range presumption unit presumes an action range in which the obstacle can exist in a predetermined time if the obstacle accelerates, decelerates, or turns on the basis of the moving performance of the obstacle detected by the obstacle detection means. An action probability presumption unit presumes a probability of the obstacle existing in the action range on the basis of the conditions of the road on which a host vehicle and the obstacle exist and the action history of the obstacle. A driving operation support unit determines a target locus which prevents the host vehicle from moving into the presumed action range or to a position where the action probability is high and generates vehicle control information necessary for making the host vehicle run along the target locus. The driving operation support unit gives the driver instructions and warnings and assists the driver with driving operation support operations. Thus, the possibility of collision of the host vehicle with the obstacle can be reduced even if the obstacle makes an action beyond the scope of the driver's assumption.

TL;DR: In this paper, a nonlinear model predictive control (MPC) formulation for obstacle avoidance in high-speed, large-size autono-mous ground vehicles (AGVs) with high center of gravity (CoG) that operate in unstructured environments, such as military vehicles, is presented.
Abstract: This paper presents a nonlinear model predictive control (MPC) formulation for obstacle avoidance in high-speed, large-size autono-mous ground vehicles (AGVs) with high centre of gravity (CoG) that operate in unstructured environments, such as military vehicles. The term ‘unstructured’ in this context denotes that there are no lanes or traffic rules to follow. Existing MPC formulations for passenger vehicles in structured environments do not readily apply to this context. Thus, a new nonlinear MPC formulation is developed to navigate an AGV from its initial position to a target position at high-speed safely. First, a new cost function formulation is used that aims to find the shortest path to the target position, since no reference trajectory exists in unstructured environments. Second, a region partitioning approach is used in conjunction with a multi-phase optimal control formulation to accommodate the complicated forms the obstacle-free region can assume due to the presence of multiple obstacle...

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a control system for autonomous path planning in excavation machinery, comprising of a map generation subsystem to receive data from an array of disparate and complementary sensors to generate a 3Dimensional digital terrain and obstacle map referenced to a coordinate frame related to the machine's geometry, during normal operation of the machine.
Abstract: This invention concerns the control of rotating excavation machinery, for instance to avoid collisions with obstacles. In a first aspect the invention is a control system for autonomous path planning in excavation machinery, comprising: A map generation subsystem to receive data from an array of disparate and complementary sensors to generate a 3 -Dimensional digital terrain and obstacle map referenced to a coordinate frame related to the machine's geometry, during normal operation of the machine. An obstacle detection subsystem to find and identify obstacles in the digital terrain and obstacle map, and then to refine the map by identifying exclusion zones that are within reach of the machine during operation. A collision detection subsystem that uses knowledge of the machine's position and movements, as well as the digital terrain and obstacle map, to identify and predict possible collisions with itself or other obstacles, and then uses a forward motion planner to predict collisions in a planned path. And, a path planning subsystem that uses information from the other subsystems to vary planned paths to avoid obstacles and collisions. In other aspects the invention is excavation machinery including the control system; a method for control of excavation machinery; and firmware and software versions of the control system.
