TL;DR: The protocol uses batches of single photons prepared randomly in one of four different states to serve as a one-time pad which is used directly to encode the secret messages in one communication process and is unconditionally secure.
Abstract: Quantum secure direct communication is the direct communication of secret messages without first producing a shared secret key. It may be used in some urgent circumstances. Here we propose a quantum secure direct communication protocol using single photons. The protocol uses batches of single photons prepared randomly in one of four different states. These single photons serve as a one-time pad which is used directly to encode the secret messages in one communication process. We also show that it is unconditionally secure. The protocol is feasible with present-day technique.

TL;DR: This work proposes a new image encryption algorithm which is based on the spatiotemporal non-adjacent coupled map lattices, which has more outstanding cryptography features in dynamics than the logistic map or coupledmap lattices does.
Abstract: We propose an image encryption scheme based on a new spatiotemporal chaotic system. The encryption scheme is not the one time pad encryption. The proposed image encryption has a large key space and high security. We propose a new image encryption algorithm which is based on the spatiotemporal non-adjacent coupled map lattices. The system of non-adjacent coupled map lattices has more outstanding cryptography features in dynamics than the logistic map or coupled map lattices does. In the proposed image encryption, we employ a bit-level pixel permutation strategy which enables bit planes of pixels permute mutually without any extra storage space. Simulations have been carried out and the results demonstrate the superior security and high efficiency of the proposed algorithm.

29 Jan 2003TL;DR: In this article, an approach for securely transmitting and storing data is described, where a sending host generates a random sequence of characters as a keystream as a one-time pad, bitwise combined with plaintext using an exclusive-OR operation to create ciphertext.
Abstract: An approach for securely transmitting and storing data is described. A sending host generates a random sequence of characters as a keystream as a one-time pad. The keystream is bitwise combined with plaintext using an exclusive-OR operation to create ciphertext. The keystream and ciphertext are routed over physically separate communication paths to a receiving host, which decrypts by applying the keystream to the ciphertext using exclusive-OR. The separately routed paths may be established using MPLS labeling or strict route options.

22 Feb 2011TL;DR: In this article, a method for generating an encryption dictionary is proposed, which includes generating a random value for each plaintext symbol of multiple plaintext symbols; and calculating a random token for each ciphertext symbol based on the random value of the ciphertext and on random values of other ciphertext symbols that have a lower lexicographic value than the plaintext ciphertext.
Abstract: A method for generating an encryption dictionary, the method includes generating a random value for each plaintext symbol of multiple plaintext symbols; and calculating a random token for each plaintext symbol based on a random value of the plaintext symbol and on random values of other plaintext symbols that have a lower lexicographic value than the plaintext symbol; wherein the calculating comprises applying a monotonic function; wherein the encryption dictionary comprises a mapping between the multiple plaintext symbols and random token of the multiple plaintext symbols.

11 Dec 1996TL;DR: In this paper, a protocol for transmitting low security messages and high security messages with one-time-pad cryptosystem is provided for low-security messages using random bit strings.
Abstract: A protocol is provided for transmitting low security messages and high security messages with one-time-pad cryptosystem. In one implementation of the present invention, low security messages are encrypted using random bit strings in accordance with a one-time-pad encryption scheme. A high security message and a decoy message are embedded within a set of encryption keys and cyphertexts that is to be transmitted from a sender to a receiver. The encryption keys are transmitted over a secure channel from the sender to the receiver, and the cyphertexts are transmitted over a publicly accessible channel from the sender to the receiver. The receiver uses the encryption keys and knowledge regarding keys for a high security message and a decoy message to decrypt the low security messages, extract the high security message and/or decoy message, and decrypt the high security message and/or decoy message. The provision of the decoy message is revealed when duress is applied to coerce the receiver into revealing the key for a supposedly high security message.
