TL;DR: In this article, the traffic signal indicator operation is monitored by the controller both to detect controller error, such as a voltage error resulting from an incorrect controller action, and to detect non-controller error, as by a burned out indicator.
Abstract: Traffic signals at an intersection are controlled by one or more controllers of the state/interval type, located in the vicinity of the intersection. One or more remote units that are portable or mobile communicate with the controller via a coded signal to command specific light operations, instruct a secondary controller to take-over light control at the intersection from a primary controller, and to reprogram the operation of the controller on a temporary or permanent basis. The remote units generate a code that must be received accurately by the controller before commands are followed. In order to economically provide such a code, the code generator employs a diode matrix that orders data words and address words and is easily reprogrammed. The traffic signal indicator operation is monitored by the controller both to detect controller error, as by a voltage error resulting from an incorrect controller action, and to detect a non-controller error, as by a current error resulting from a burned out indicator. The controller may take different corrective action depending upon the nature of the error, including switching to another controller. An anti-coincidence logic circuit is connected between a state/interval controller and the light driver and disconnect.

TL;DR: In this paper, a direct current power controller for aircraft control circuits is described, where a bias voltage supply circuit powers a gate driving circuit, current limiting circuit, and trip indicating circuit.
Abstract: A direct current power controller for use in electrical control systems such as aircraft control circuits. The controller utilizes a field effect transistor (FET) as the switching element. A bias voltage supply circuit powers a gate driving circuit, current limiting circuit, and trip indicating circuit. Gate driving circuitry is not directly connected to the system ground, thus minimizing load interference with controller performance and eliminating the need for level shifting circuitry. Remote control circuitry is provided.

TL;DR: The state-feedback vibration controller has a rapid convergence time and implementation is easier than with multicyclic control since no on-line harmonic analysis or identification algorithms are required as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: The effectiveness and practicality of the state-feedback vibration controller is demonstrated by computer simulations. It is shown that: (1) the required measurements can be reduced to fuselage accelerations; (2) the system is stable over a wide range of flight conditions; (3) a discrete design for the controller provides effective digital implementation at 80-Hz sampling; (4) attenuation produced by the actuators does not create a problem, and a simple lead compensator provides vibration reduction; and (5) a design based on a hover model worked well at five knots. At 40 and 120 knots, vibrations in all but the vertical acceleration were effectively suppressed. The state-feedback vibration controller has a rapid convergence time and implementation is easier than with multicyclic control since no on-line harmonic analysis or identification algorithms are required.

TL;DR: In this paper, a phase fired controller is provided for eliminating large shifts in the firing angle due to line voltage variations, which is accomplished by controlling the output of a capacitor that supplies a voltage to a comparator.
Abstract: A phase fired controller is provided for eliminating large shifts in the firing angle due to line voltage variations. Another advantage of the controller is that variations resulting from parts tolerances are reduced substantially. This is accomplished by controlling the output of a capacitor that supplies a voltage to a comparator. The system has particular utility when used as a dimmer controller of an electrostatic copier.

Abstract: Two controller units controlling a single input/output device such as a cathode ray tube (CRT) are synchronized by a command signal. Upon appearance of the command signal, the slave controller unit, which may have been running unsynchronized with the master controller, is stopped at the time for vertical retrace and remains stopped until vertical retrace time for the master controller. At this point, the slave controller is restarted in synchronism with the master controller and remains synchronized so long as both master and slave receive the same clock and the same screen refresh parameters.

TL;DR: In this article, an improvement is made so that an undesirable level variation may not substantially occur in the control signal applied to the controlled object during the transient state of switch-over from the main digital controller to the stand-by digital controller.
Abstract: In a multiple digital controller system which comprises a main or first digital controller and at least one stand-by or second digital controller and in which the main digital controller normally applies the control signal to an object to be controlled, and the stand-by digital controller applies the control signal to the controlled object when the main digital controller is disabled, an improvement is made so that an undesirable level variation may not substantially occur in the control signal applied to the controlled object during the transient state of switch-over from the main digital controller to the stand-by digital controller. In the improved multiple digital controller system according to the present invention, the integral calculation to be carried out in the stand-by digital controller in a period n (n=2, 3, . . . ) is executed on the basis of the data representing the result of integral calculation carried out in the preceding period (n-1) in the main digital controller and transmitted from the main digital controller, in order to eliminate the influence of the difference in conversion error occurring in the A/D converters of the digital controllers.

TL;DR: In this article, the problem of the generation of sub-optimal output feedback is cast in the setting of a constrained parameter optimization problem, where the primal minimization employs a Davidon-Fletcher-Powell method, and the dual maximization is accomplished via a quasi-Newton procedure.
Abstract: This paper describes an applications oriented approach to the generation of optimal output feedback gains for linear time-invariant systems which is independent of the open loop stability. The standard requirement for the provision of initial stabilizing output feedback gains for priming the computational process is circumvented. In lieu of initial stabilizing gains, the proposed algorithm employs the full state feedback solution which guarantees stability under the mild condition of stabilizabitity. In this paper the problem of the generation of sub-optimal output feedback is cast in the setting of a constrained parameter optimization problem. The solution of this constrained optimization employs Hestenes’ method of multipliers with some modifications. A primal-dual problem is considered where the primal minimization employs a Davidon-Fletcher-Powell method, and the dual maximization is accomplished via a quasi-Newton procedure. This approach provides the designer with a means of suppressing to zero sele...

TL;DR: In this paper, a modified direct-decoupling method using the adjoint matrix instead of the inverse of the plant matrix to construct the compensator was proposed, which uses a frequency-domain model-reduction method to simplify the degree of the given plant transfer function matrix and the obtained compensator.
Abstract: A design method, which decouples an interactive system by using a compensator obtained from the plant inverse matrix, which is often called the direct-decoupling method is modified in this paper. The modified direct-decoupling method uses the adjoint matrix instead of the inverse of the plant matrix to construct the compensator. The method uses a frequency-domain model-reduction method to simplify the degree of the given plant transfer function matrix and the obtained compensator. For an open-loop stable multivariable system, the proposed method gives a simple, practical, and realizable controller without using an unstable pole-zero cancellation approach.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To perform the efficient operation of a controller, by holding a control program that at least a self-controller should execute originally, and reconstituting and executing a high-importance control program part that a controller relating to a fault and the self-controller should execute. CONSTITUTION:Controllers A, B, and C coupld together through a host electronic computer 1 input detection outputs from detectors assigned to them and also process those detection outputs properly to control an operating device. If a fault occurs to the controller A and that is detected by a watch dock timer, etc., a switching part 9A is switched to inform the controller B of that through a communication line 4A and a bus line 2. Consequently, the controller B exercises switching control over a switching part 9B to equip itself with a detector 10A and an operating device 11A, and a control program is reconstituted by using a high-importance control program part that the controller A should execute and a high-importance control program part that the controller B should execute, and then executed.

Abstract: The invention relates to a control system for magnetic cushion vehicles for controlling the air gap between magnet and rail. A controller is provided for each magnet, which controller drives an actuator (6, 6') constructed as a magnetic current controller which can be rapidly switched on and off, via which actuator each magnet (4) is supplied with energy. In addition, the control system has an inner control circuit for feeding back a variable, assigned to the actual magnetic force (Fact), to the input (8) of the magnetic current controller (6). For example a flux sensor or a current sensor for the magnetic current is used to determine the magnetic force. The magnetic current controller has either two-point or three-point characteristics. With such a control system, the tracking characteristics of a magnetic cushion vehicle can be improved since in the event of deviations from the nominal state it is quickly returned into said state.

TL;DR: In this paper, a digital pretimed traffic controller is proposed to control traffic signals at an intersection during a selected signal cycle where a demand signal, such as created by a detector, is directed to the controller.
Abstract: In a digital pretimed traffic controller of the type used to control traffic signals at an intersection during a selected signal cycle there is provided an improvement wherein a demand signal, such as created by a detector, is directed to the controller. The demand signal is used for selecting one of a plurality of interval sequences within a fixed time cycle background. In this manner, the digital pretimed controller is compatible with electro-mechanical controllers and still retains traffic actuation versatility. The controller also is constructed to assure that the overall cycle length and the programmable individual interval times are identical before the particular timing plan can be accepted by the controller.

TL;DR: In this paper, the design and implementation of a controller to stabilize a single-input single-output (SISO) unstable plant using pole-assignment technique and observer theory is considered.
Abstract: This paper considers the design and implementation of a controller to stabilize a single-input single-output unstable plant using pole-assignment technique and observer theory. First, assuming that the state variables are available for feedback, the pole-assignment technique is used to determine the feedback gains required to achieve a desired set of closed-loop poles. This assumption is relaxed and an observer is designed to estimate the control law using output feedback. The unstable plant is simulated on a TR48 analog computer with the controller in the feedback loop. Active network implementation of the controller is discussed.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To facilitate the recovery of function in case when a contiguous controller has a trouble and to increase the reliability, by adding two signal transmitting circuits having the transmitting/receiving function plus a switch that switches automatically from ON to the by-pass mode when the trouble arises to each controller. CONSTITUTION: Two signal transmitting circuits C11, C12; C21, C22 and C31, C32 having a transmitting/receiving function respectively are provided to plural controllers C1, C2 and C3 which are connected to a central processor HC to control their individual subjects of control. Then, for instance, the circuit C21 of the controller C2 is connected to the circuit C32 of the controller C3, and the circuit C22 is connected to the circuit C11 of the controller C1 respectively by means of a switch SW2. At the same time, the circuit C32 of the controller C3 is connected to the circuit C11 of the controller C1 in case when the controller C2 has a trouble. Thus the state of a contiguous controller can be easily known to facilitate the recovery of function when a trouble arises. COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio

TL;DR: In this article, a series and a parallel voltage controller are connected one after the other, and a resistor lies between the series controller output and the parallel controller input to ensure a constant input current that is larger than the max. load current taken from the parallel controllers.
Abstract: The controller produces a constant output voltage from a constant input current where the input and output voltages are almost identical. A series and a parallel voltage controller are connected one after the other. The parallel controller produces a constant output voltage defined by a voltage divider Current and by the slightly higher constant voltage from the series controller. It is intended for telephone systems current supplies and implemented using integrated precision regulates. A resistor lies between the series controller output and the parallel controller input. This resistor along with the constant output voltages from the controllers ensures a constant input current that is larger than the max. load current taken from the parallel controller.
