TL;DR: It is shown empirically that the new evolution strategy based on Cauchy mutation outperforms the classical evolution strategy on most of the 23 benchmark problems tested in this paper.
Abstract: Evolution strategies are a class of general optimisation algorithms which are applicable to functions that are multimodal, non-differentiable, or even discontinuous. Although recombination operators have been introduced into evolution strategies, their primary search operator is still mutation. Classical evolution strategies rely on Gaussian mutations. A new mutation operator based on the Cauchy distribution is proposed in this paper. It is shown empirically that the new evolution strategy based on Cauchy mutation outperforms the classical evolution strategy on most of the 23 benchmark problems tested in this paper. These results, along with those obtained by fast evolutionary programming

TL;DR: In this article, the authors introduce a broader framework that allows us to derive quantum-mechanical limits on the precision to which a parameter -e.g., elapsed time -may be determined via arbitrary data analysis of arbitrary measurements on N identically prepared quantum systems.

TL;DR: The ordered weighted averaging operator is extended to a provide a new class of operators called the generalized OWA (GOWA) operators, which add to the OWA operator an additional parameter controlling the power to which the argument values are raised.
Abstract: We extend the ordered weighted averaging (OWA) operator to a provide a new class of operators called the generalized OWA (GOWA) operators. These operators add to the OWA operator an additional parameter controlling the power to which the argument values are raised. We look at some special cases of these operators. One important case corresponds to the generalized mean and another special case is the ordered weighted geometric operator.

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that all minimum-uncertainty packets are unitarily equivalent to the coherent states and that coherence may be viewed as stationary minimality, and a new calculation of some matrix elements of the operator that implements the unitary equivalence was given.
Abstract: In a previous paper we have shown that all minimum-uncertainty packets are unitarily equivalent to the coherent states and that coherence may be viewed as stationary minimality. In this note we give some additional information relating to the nature of the unitary-equivalence structure. We also give a new calculation of some matrix elements of the operator that implements the unitary equivalence which is not subject to the shortcoming inherent in the original calculation.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss the ways in which automation of industrial processes may expand rather than eliminate problems with the human operator, and make comments on methods of alleviating these problems within the classic approach of leaving the operator with responsibility for abnormal conditions.
