TL;DR: In this paper, an OBM-COOFDM (orthogonal-band-multiplexed-coherent optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) optical signal is obtained under the condition of not using the RF oscillation sources, thus greatly reducing the complexity and cost of a transmitter.
Abstract: The invention provides a feasible Terabit transmission rate coherent light orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system which is of simpler system structure, and comprises a transmitting end and a receiving end, wherein, the transmitting end comprises a transmitting end optical carrier generation module which comprises a transmitting end laser, an optical comb generator and an optical demultiplexer. In the system, on the basis of single light source, the optical comb generator is utilized to obtain light frequency combs with multiple wavelengths, which are used as optical carriers of base band OFDM signals, and mutually orthogonal OFDM frequency bands are generated on an optical domain, thus a plurality of radio frequency (RF) oscillation sources with complex structures are not need in the prior art. By utilizing the system, an OBM-COOFDM (orthogonal-band-multiplexed-coherent optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) optical signal is obtained under the condition of not using the RF oscillation sources, thus greatly reducing the complexity and cost of a transmitter; and the system has better feasibility of the OBM-COOFDM hardware, thus reducing the higher sampling rate requirements of the traditional COOFDM Terabit transceiver on a digital to analog converter (DAC) and an analog to digital converter (ADC).

TL;DR: In this article, low-loss InAsP-GaInP multiquantum-well electroabsorption waveguide modulators have been developed for transmitting microwaves as subcarriers over optical fibers.
Abstract: Low-loss InAsP-GaInP multiquantum-well electroabsorption waveguide modulators have been developed for transmitting microwaves as subcarriers over optical fibers. The fiber-to-fiber insertion loss is only 5 dB at 1.32-/spl mu/m wavelength. The electrooptic slope efficiency of an 185-/spl mu/m-long 11-GHz bandwidth device is equivalent to a Mach-Zehnder modulator with a V/sub /spl pi// of 2.2 V. The linearity performance was characterized for a test link without any form of amplification. A RF-to-RF link efficiency of -25.5 dB, noise figure of 27 dB and suboctave spurious-free dynamic range of 114 dB.Hz/sup 4/5/ have been achieved with 16 mW input optical carrier power. The measured 3-dB electrical bandwidth exceeds 20 GHz for a 90-/spl mu/m-long device.

TL;DR: A duplex Radio Over Fibre (ROF) ring architecture is proposed taking into account the constraints imposed by the cost of fibre laying and of the optical/electronic components, as well as the spectral efficiency and the duplex link performance.
Abstract: A duplex Radio Over Fibre (ROF) ring architecture is proposed taking into account the constraints imposed by the cost of fibre laying and of the optical/electronic components, as well as the spectral efficiency and the duplex link performance. It has been shown that relying on Analogue ROF (AROF) and state-of-the-art Digitized ROF (DROF) architectures for downlink and uplink transmission, respectively, attains a high-integrity duplex performance. A sophisticated amalgam of Optical Carrier Suppression (OCS), Code Division Multiplexing (CDM), optical frequency multiplexing, Optical Carrier Reuse (OCR) and distributed antennas is conceived.

TL;DR: It has been demonstrated in this letter that the polarization-tracking-free PDM system can support the co-transmission of respective 70-Gbps digital and analog signals over 20-km single mode fiber.
Abstract: For fixed services such as hybrid fiber-coaxial and passive optical network with deployed fiber networks, it is desirable to exploit the potentials to support wireless services in fifth-generation (5G) mobile data communications on the top of the existing fixed networks. We propose a polarization-division multiplexing (PDM) scheme to achieve the co-delivery of independent signals for fixed-mobile convergence. This is achieved by removing unwanted optical carrier in each polarization, and thus the proposed system can resolve the polarization-tracking issue in conventional PDM. It has been demonstrated in this letter that the polarization-tracking-free PDM system can support the co-transmission of respective 70-Gbps digital and analog signals over 20-km single mode fiber. Experimental results have shown low crosstalk between two polarizations. The proposed PDM system is compatible with wavelength-division-multiplexing (WDM) network and is capable of enhancing the spectral efficiency of WDM channels. The inherent single-sideband feature of the proposed PDM also enhances long-range services.

TL;DR: In this article, a multihop dense wavelength division multiplexed (DWDM) optical network with over 200 km fiber and a low power penalty was demonstrated for optical label switching and transport in a multirate payloads.
Abstract: Optical packets with multirate payloads have been demonstrated for optical label switching (OLS) and transport in a multihop dense wavelength-division-multiplexed (DWDM) optical network with over 200 km fiber and a low-power penalty for the first time. The key functions for label generation, swapping, and switching have been successfully realized.
