TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that due to a dimensionality mismatch between the two-dimensional cavity photons and the three-dimensional arrangement of molecules, the system permits superfluid regimes where the relevant molecular degrees of freedom are collective Dicke states rather than individual excitations.
Abstract: Motivated by recent experiments reporting Bose-Einstein condensation of light coupled to incoherent dye molecules in a microcavity, we show that due to a dimensionality mismatch between the two-dimensional cavity photons and the three-dimensional arrangement of molecules, the system permits superfluid regimes where the relevant molecular degrees of freedom are collective Dicke states rather than individual excitations. For sufficiently high dye concentration, Dicke states become robust against local decoherence. In the limit when all dye molecules become excited, this system also shows Mott-Hubbard physics, despite the absence of an underlying lattice.

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of external optical feedback on the spectral properties of single-mode external cavity semiconductor lasers that use a graded index (GRIN) lens in the optical cavity have been investigated.
Abstract: The effects of external optical feedback on the spectral properties of single-mode external cavity semiconductor lasers that use a graded-index (GRIN) lens in the optical cavity have been investigated. Mode rejection ratio and intensity drop-out rate of the dominant mode as a function of optical strength have been measured. These measurements show that a laser with a short (160 μm) GRIN-lens external cavity can tolerate optical feedback as large as −20 dB without significant penalty. This minimum optical feedback can be larger when lasers with shorter cavity length are used.

TL;DR: In this paper, an optical circuit including an optical wave-guiding channel and a mirror formed on a slope forming a predetermined angle with a substrate, the slope being formed by reflowing a silica glass layer accumulated on a step that is substantially perpendicular to the substrate.
Abstract: An optical circuit including an optical wave-guiding channel and a mirror formed on a slope forming a predetermined angle with a substrate, the slope being formed by reflowing a silica glass layer accumulated on a step that is substantially perpendicular to the substrate. The optical circuit optically connects the optical wave-guiding channel and an optical active device fixed over the mirror even if the optical axis of the optical wave-guiding channel forms an angle with that of the optical active device.
