TL;DR: In this article, high-impedance optical electrodes modulate light in response to a life-form bio-potential and then convert the modulated light to an electrical signal that provides traditional EEG and EEC type output.
Abstract: High-impedance optical electrodes modulate light in response to a life-form bio-potential and then converts the modulated light to an electrical signal that provides traditional EEG and EEC type output. Light splitters are used to provide multiple electrodes and an electronic reference source. A pilot tone is used to achieve high sensitivity and synchronize multiple units while an optical phase-shift modulator is used to reduce optical noise.

TL;DR: In this article, a high-performance monolithic electroabsorption modulator/DFB laser light source with a bandwidth of 10.3 GHz and an output power of 17 mW was presented.
Abstract: By the use of a semi-insulating BH structure we have obtained a high-performance monolithic electroabsorption modulator/DFB laser light source having a bandwidth of 10.3 GHz and an output power of 17 mW. The chirp was only 0.1 A under 10 Gbit/s NRZ modulation.

TL;DR: In this article, an overview of the different contributions due to carrier-induced effects that appear in InP/GaInAsP guided-wave phase modulators is given, and the authors review and calculate the band-filling effect in such devices and point out optimized structures.
Abstract: An overview of the different contributions due to carrier-induced effects that appear in InP/GaInAsP guided-wave phase modulators is given. The authors review and calculate the band-filling effect in such devices and point out optimized structures. The fabrication of phase modulators and directional coupler switches based on a GaInAsP/InP heterostructure is described. These devices exhibit modulation characteristics in good agreement with the calculations having a phase modulation efficiency as high as 11 degrees /V mm and low optical losses. >

TL;DR: Conditions on device design are found that minimize the polarization sensitivity of switches/modulators, making them suitable for use with fiber optic transmission lines.
Abstract: Crosstalk in optical waveguide switches/modulators caused by having two polarizations simultaneously present is studied in this work. This situation is expected to arise when fiber optical transmission lines are coupled to integrated optical circuits. Modulator/switch performance is found to be strongly affected by having two propagating polarizations. Conditions on device design are found that minimize the polarization sensitivity of switches/modulators, making them suitable for use with fiber optic transmission lines.
