TL;DR: In this paper, a purely additive nanotransfer printing process that uses noncovalent surface forces to guide the transfer of thin metal films from low-energy surfaces of high-resolution stamps to a variety of substrates is described.
Abstract: We report a purely additive nanotransfer printing process that uses noncovalent surface forces to guide the transfer of thin metal films from low-energy surfaces of high-resolution stamps to a variety of substrates. Structures with dimensions as small as a few hundred nanometers, with edge roughness as small as 10nm are demonstrated. Metal multilayer stacks patterned in this way have electrical resistances that are the same as those formed by evaporation and conventional lithography. Thin-film transistors that use source/drain electrodes printed directly onto thin films of the semiconducting polymer regioregular polythiophene and networks of single-walled carbon nanotubes exhibit device mobilities and on/off ratios that are comparable to or higher than those of devices fabricated using standard methods.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors report methods of surface modification and device construction which consistently result in lab-scale pentacene-based TFTs with mobilities at or above 5 cm2/Vs.
Abstract: We report here methods of surface modification and device construction which consistently result in lab-scale pentacene-based TFTs with mobilities at or above 5 cm2/Vs. Surface modifications include polymeric ultrathin films presenting a passivated interface on which the semiconductor can grow. High performance TFTs have been fabricated on a variety of dielectric materials, both organic and inorganic, and are currently being implemented in manufacturable constructions. Our surface modifications have also proven useful for substituted pentacene materials and for a variety of other organic semiconductors. In addition, we report an all organic active layer, rf-powered integrated circuit. Further experiments and statistical analyses are underway to explain the elevated mobility in our samples, and efforts have been made to confirm these results through collaboration.

TL;DR: The experimental observations strongly suggest that the primary spin relaxation mechanism in the organic is the Elliott-Yafet mode, in which the spin relaxes whenever a carrier scatters and its velocity changes.
Abstract: Organic semiconductors that are π-conjugated are emerging as an important platform for ‘spintronics’, which purports to harness the spin degree of freedom of a charge carrier to store, process and/or communicate information1. Here, we report the study of an organic nanowire spin valve device, 50 nm in diameter, consisting of a trilayer of ferromagnetic cobalt, an organic, Alq3, and ferromagnetic nickel. The measured spin relaxation time in the organic is found to be exceptionally long—between a few milliseconds and a second—and it is relatively temperature independent up to 100 K. Our experimental observations strongly suggest that the primary spin relaxation mechanism in the organic is the Elliott–Yafet mode, in which the spin relaxes whenever a carrier scatters and its velocity changes.

TL;DR: In this paper, a hybrid photovoltaic cell based on a blend of inorganic nanocrystals and polymers has been proposed for low-cost, scalable solar power conversion.
Abstract: Recent results have demonstrated that hybrid photovoltaic cells based on a blend of inorganic nanocrystals and polymers possess significant potential for low-cost, scalable solar power conversion. Colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals, like polymers, are solution processable and chemically synthesized, but possess the advantageous properties of inorganic semiconductors such as a broad spectral absorption range and high carrier mobilities. Significant advances in hybrid solar cells have followed the development of elongated nanocrystal rods and branched nanocrystals, which enable more effective charge transport. The incorporation of these larger nanostructures into polymers has required optimization of blend morphology using solvent mixtures. Future advances will rely on new nanocrystals, such as cadmium telluride tetrapods, that have the potential to enhance light absorption and further improve charge transport. Gains can also be made by incorporating application-specific organic components, including electroactive surfactants which control the physical and electronic interactions between nanocrystals and polymer.

TL;DR: In this article, the first flexible, air-stable n-type organic transistors with a transparent channel on conventional overhead transparency film or on ITO/glass substrates were synthesized.
Abstract: Core-cyanated naphthalene diimide organic semiconductors were synthesized for use in field-effect transistors. The unusual combination of wide band gap and high mobility in these materials enables the fabrication of the first flexible, air-stable n-type organic transistors with a transparent channel on conventional overhead transparency film or on ITO/glass substrates.
