TL;DR: In this article, the authors present and analyze the well-known bond trading scandal at Salomon Brother to demon-strate the development of an unethical organizational culture under the leadership of John Gutfreund.
Abstract: The paper describes and discusses unethical behavior in organizations, as a result of (interacting) disputable leadership and ethical climate. This paper presents and analyzes the well-known bond trading scandal at Salomon Brother to demon- strate the development of an unethical organizational culture under the leadership of John Gutfreund. The paper argues that leaders shape and reinforce an ethical or unethical organizational climate by what they pay attention to, how they react to crises, how they behave, how they allocate rewards, and how they hire and fire individuals.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors define organizational culture as "the values, beliefs, and ideologies of an organization" and describe possible approaches and techniques for uncovering organizational culture on a college or university campus.
Abstract: Several authors have recently popularized organizational culture—the values, beliefs, and ideologies of an organization. While perhaps difficult to define and measure, organizational culture is useful in the study of higher education. This paper defines the concept, explores why it is relevant to higher education, and then describes possible approaches and techniques for uncovering organizational culture on a college or university campus. Examples of organizational culture at work demonstrate its value. This paper encourages other researchers to apply the concepts of organizational culture in their study of higher education.

TL;DR: In a cross-sectional survey, a variance-based structural equation modeling was used to test hypotheses on a convenience sample of 180 marketing executives in Australia as mentioned in this paper, finding that market orientation and organizational culture together contribute to brand performance, shedding light on the nexus between innovative culture and market orientation.
Abstract: Purpose – The paper aims at providing insights into how market orientation and organisational culture together contribute to brand performance, shedding light on the nexus between innovative culture and market orientation, and examining the relative importance of innovative culture over market orientation in affecting brand performance.Design/methodology/approach – In a cross‐sectional survey, a variance‐based structural equation modelling was used to test hypotheses on a convenience sample of 180 marketing executives in Australia.Findings – Organisations with a strong innovative culture appear to recognise that building a successful brand depends not always on the interpretation of feedback received from current customers and competitors, but instead on organisations' ability to innovatively develop unique ways of delivering superior value to customers. The findings were consistent with this advice to both market orientation and innovative culture. In addition, the findings indicate that market orientati...

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the impact of organizational culture on men's usage of parental leave in Sweden, a society that promotes men's sharing of childcare, and found that men's use of paternity leave is significantly affected by organizational culture, including the commitment to caring values, the company's level of 'father friendliness', the support for women's equal employment opportunity, fathers' perceptions of support from top managers, and fathers' perception of work group norms that reward task performance vs. long hours at work.
Abstract: This article examines the impact of organizational culture on men's usage of parental leave in Sweden, a society that promotes men's sharing of childcare. Results from a mail survey of 317 fathers in six companies suggest that men's use of parental leave is significantly affected by organizational culture, including the company's commitment to caring values, the company's level of 'father friendliness', the company's support for women's equal employment opportunity, fathers' perceptions of support from top managers, and fathers' perceptions of work group norms that reward task performance vs. long hours at work. These effects were independent of the influence of individual- and family-level attributes previously acknowledged to affect men's participation in early childcare. While findings support the social constructionist perspective on gender arrangements, men's advocacy of shared parenting and perception of partners' advocacy of shared leave remained strong independent correlates of leavetaking. Father...

TL;DR: A relationship between manufacturing strategy and organizational culture, based on an examination of the research literature, has been proposed in this article, which indicates that a manufacturer with a well-aligned and implemented manufacturing strategy exhibits a collectivist or group-oriented organizational culture with coordinated decision making, decentralized authority, and a loyal work force.
Abstract: This paper proposes a relationship between manufacturing strategy and organizational culture, based on an examination of the research literature. Survey data were collected from 822 respondents in 41 plants in the transportation, electronics, and machinery industries in the U.S. These plants included random samples of U.S.-owned and Japanese-owned manufacturers in the U.S., and manufacturers reputed to use advanced manufacturing practices. Analysis indicates that manufacturing strategy and organizational culture are related, and that a manufacturer with a well-aligned and implemented manufacturing strategy exhibits a collectivist or group-oriented organizational culture with coordinated decision making, decentralized authority, and a loyal work force.
