TL;DR: The trends in cross-cultural management papers published in 24 management journals during the last decade from 1971 to 1980 are examined in this article, showing that less than 5 percent of organizational behavior articles published in top American management journals focused on cross-culture issues.
Abstract: The trends in cross-cultural management papers published in 24 journals during the last decade, 1971 to 1980, are examined. Less than 5 percent of organizational behavior articles published in top American management journals focused on cross-cultural issues. The majority of the cross-cultural articles were single culture studies; less than 1 percent investigated the interaction between employees of different cultures. No increase was seen in the number of international organizational behavior articles over the decade.

TL;DR: This paper examined the work environment for creativity at a large high-technology firm before, during, and after a major downsizing and found that creativity and most creativity-supporting aspects of the perceived work environment declined significantly during the downsizing hut increased modestly later; the opposite pattern was observed for creativity-undermining aspects.
Abstract: This study examined the work environment for creativity at a large high-technology firm before, during, and after a major downsizing Creativity and most creativity-supporting aspects of the perceived work environment declined significantly during the downsizing hut increased modestly later; the opposite pattern was observed for creativity-undermining aspects Stimulants and obstacles to creativity in the work environment mediated the effects of downsizing These results suggest ways in which theories of organizational creativity can be expanded and ways in which the negative effects of downsizing might be avoided or alleviated

TL;DR: This article found a family firm's culture of commitment to the business is positively associated with its strategic flexibility, the ability to pursue new opportunities and respond to threats in the competitive environment, and stewardship-oriented organizational culture positively moderated the family commitment-strategic flexibility relationship.
Abstract: The ability of family firms to identify and respond to changes in their external environments can be a key source of competitive advantage leading to success and survival. Some research, however, has suggested family firms are conservative and often lack the ability to adapt to their changing competitive environments. Using data from 248 family firms, we found a family firm's culture of commitment to the business is positively associated with its strategic flexibility—the ability to pursue new opportunities and respond to threats in the competitive environment. Further, we found stewardship-oriented organizational culture positively moderated the family commitment-strategic flexibility relationship.

TL;DR: The authors found that organizational subculture was more strongly related to commitment than was organizational culture, while Satisfaction with the level of control over working environment had the highest correlation with the degree of commitment, and the leadership style variable, consideration, was also relatively strongly related with commitment when compared with other variables.
Abstract: The concept of organizational commitment has been examined extensively in organizational literature, yet the relationships between organizational culture, subculture and commitment have received little attention so far. Acknowledging the complexity and the multifaceted nature of antecedents involved in organizational commitment, it is still necessary to understand the dynamics of relationships between these variables. It was found that organizational subculture was more strongly related to commitment than was organizational culture. Satisfaction with the level of control over working environment had the highest correlation with the level of commitment. The leadership style variable, consideration, was also relatively strongly related to commitment when compared with other variables. There was a small positive association between age and commitment. However, participants’ level of education, years in position and years of experience failed to show any relationship with commitment.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors focus on benefits, recent developments, and barriers to multilevel theory building and suggest that a sense-making perspective can be used to explore creativity when analyzing several levels, including the inter- and intrasubjective levels as well as the collective level.
Abstract: The article focuses on benefits, recent developments, and barriers to multilevel theory building. It states that multilevel theories span levels of organizational behavior and foster synthesis within the organizational sciences. It mentions that multilevel theories help identify characteristics, attitudes, perceptions, and behaviors that help shape the organization. It states that some barriers to multilevel theories include conflicting interests, heuristics, and scope. It mentions that a sensemaking perspective can be used to explore creativity when analyzing several levels, including the inter- and intrasubjective levels as well as the collective level.
