TL;DR: In this paper, a technique for designing impedance-transforming baluns is presented, which is based on the Marchand balun with two identical coupled lines, by varying the coupling factor of the coupled sections, a wide range of impedance transforming ratios can be achieved.
Abstract: A technique for designing impedance-transforming baluns is presented in this paper. It is based on the Marchand balun with two identical coupled lines. By varying the coupling factor of the coupled sections, a wide range of impedance transforming ratios can be achieved. In addition, a resistive network added between the balun outputs is proposed to achieve balun output matching and isolation. Microstrip baluns, matched at all ports, for transforming from a 50-/spl Omega/ source impedance to 40-/spl Omega/ as well as 160-/spl Omega/ load terminations are realized to demonstrate the technique.

TL;DR: In this article, a computer-aided design is described that makes it possible to reduce the internal impedance levels of branch line couplers so that they may be physically constructed by microstrip lines, where the Fletcher-Powell search method has been used to optimize the design.
Abstract: A computer-aided design is described that makes it possible to reduce the internal impedance levels of branch-line couplers so that they may be physically constructed by microstrip lines, where the Fletcher-Powell search method has been used to optimize the design. Because microstrip lines are severely restricted in their usable impedance range, the 3-dB couplers presented here should be useful for numerous balanced-type components such as balanced mixers. The validity of the design has been experimentally verified in the microwave and millimeter-wave region.

TL;DR: In this paper, an oscillation compensation technique is proposed to improve the stability margin of an electrical system constituted by a dc power supply, an LC filter, and a constant power load.
Abstract: In this paper, an oscillation compensation technique is proposed to improve the stability margin of an electrical system constituted by a dc power supply, an LC filter, and a constant power load. This is realized here by an actuator (inverter-permanent-magnet synchronous motor). To design the compensator, input impedance of the constant power load and output impedance of the filter are required and derived in this paper. To develop the load input impedance expression, small signal approximation is employed and all dynamics are taken into account except by the inverter ones only, which can often be neglected in practical applications. Then, the control structure of the whole system is slightly modified to implement the oscillation compensation block that increases the stability margin, and thus, permits to reduce the dc-link capacitance value. In this paper, the proposed method is applied to an actuator designed for aerospace applications. The influence of the actuator control parameters and the input filter parameters on the stability of the dc-link voltage is discussed. Simulations and experimentations confirm the validity of the proposed approach.

TL;DR: In this paper, an ultra wideband (UWB) power divider on microstrip line is proposed, analyzed and designed, which is formed by installing a pair of stepped-impedance open-circuited stubs and parallel-coupled lines to two symmetrical output ports.
Abstract: An ultra-wideband (UWB) power divider on microstrip line is proposed, analyzed and designed. This divider is formed by installing a pair of stepped-impedance open-circuited stubs and parallel-coupled lines to two symmetrical output ports. In addition, a single resistor is properly placed between two output ports. After simple transmission line theory analysis, it is demonstrated that 3 dB power splitting from one input to two output ports, good impedance matching at all the three ports and excellent isolation between two output ports are achieved over the specified 3.1-10.6 GHz UWB range. Finally, a prototype divider is fabricated and measured to provide an experimental verification on the predicted attractive features.
