TL;DR: A movable support panel assembly for hanging and supporting articles is provided by a number of modules within an outer rectangular frame as discussed by the authors, each module has a panel for supporting the articles, and the outer frame has roller supports at the bottom for moving the assembly on the floor and guides at the side edges for extending into stationary overhead tracks.
Abstract: A movable support panel assembly for hanging and supporting articles is of modular construction provided by a number of modules within an outer rectangular frame. Each module has a panel for supporting the articles, and the outer frame has roller supports at the bottom for moving the assembly on the floor and guides at the side edges for extending into stationary overhead tracks. The guides may be retracted so that the assembly may be moved to positions which are not under the track. For such movements an outrigger transporter assembly is attached to each end of the screen.

TL;DR: In this article, a fluid-operated lifter engaged the release arms on the poultry carriers to effect removal of poultry from a moving overhead conveyor chain, is used to maintain operational alignment and prevent malfunction because of carrier displacement.
Abstract: Sorting of poultry suspended by carriers from a moving overhead conveyor chain, is accomplished by weighing apparatus constituting a unitary assembly adjustably installed at any desired location in the conveyor system. A fluid-operated lifter engages the release arms on the poultry carriers to effect removal of poultry from the conveyor. The assembly is provided with facilities to maintain operational alignment and prevent malfunction because of carrier displacements.

Abstract: A slide changer attachment includes mating case sections pivotally connected by slidable adjustable arms which provide for selectively mounting the attachment on various overhead slide projectors of different widths. An intermediate panel is mounted one of the case sections and supports a sliding feed plate adjacent the bottom of a hopper. The feed plate is connected to an endless belt driven by a reversible motor controlled by a circuit including a manually actuated switch, a set of limit switches and a relay to effect automatic reciprocation of the feed plate.

TL;DR: In this article, a machine for fabricating a continuous web of bias-formed wire overhead material having a tape-index-feeding device cooperative with a cutting device which cuts a predetermined amount of tape onto a carrier member of a splicing table is described.
Abstract: A machine for fabricating a continuous web of bias-formed wire overhead material having a tape-index-feeding device cooperative with a cutting device which cuts a predetermined amount of tape onto a carrier member of a splicing table. The splicing table is subject to being magnetized to flatten and condition the wire tape for splicing to the wire overhead being formed. The magnetization of the table moves a holddown bar and guide means into contact with the formed wire overhead maintaining the previously spliced material in position while cooperating with the carrier member to assure an effective butt splice.

TL;DR: The results of the computation suggest that good practical results may be expected from the single-wire railway overhead system at speeds up to at least 100 mile/h, if suitable parameters are chosen.
Abstract: A mathematical investigation of the static characteristics of a single-wire railway overhead system is outlined, and a computational method of obtaining the displacements of a mathematical model of the equipment, when excited by the passage of a pantograph, is described. The aims of the paper are limited to those of a preliminary investigation, namely to ascertain whether or not the system is feasible, and to obtain information concerning the suitable choice of certain parameters. Hence the mathematical model employed is a simple one, and a thorough quantitative analysis of contact-loss figures is not attempted. The results of the computation suggest that good practical results may be expected from the system at speeds up to at least 100 mile/h, if suitable parameters are chosen.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that the investment in overhead lines is between 20 and 40% of the total expenditure for major electrification schemes and that insulation accounts for about 10% of line cost at 132 kV, rising to approximately 25% at 750 kV.
Abstract: By facilitating the transmission and distribution of electrical energy at relatively low cost, overhead lines have played a very important role in the growth of our modern technological civilization and will continue to do so to an increasing extent in the future. For major electrification schemes the investment in overhead lines is between 20 and 40% of the total expenditure. Insulation accounts for about 10% of line cost at 132 kV, rising to approximately 25% at 750 kV.

TL;DR: In this article, a high-accuracy method of calculating skin-effect resistance and reactance of nonmagnetic stranded overhead power transmission conductors is described, which uses an equivalent network approach and takes into account the effects due to wire spiraling, as well as the proximity effect between strands and the nonuniform current distribution in each strand.
Abstract: A high-accuracy method of calculating skin-effect resistance and reactance of nonmagnetic stranded overhead power transmission conductors is described. This method uses an equivalent network approach and takes into account the effects due to wire spiraling, as well as the proximity effect between strands and the nonuniform current distribution in each strand. It produces results of greater accuracy than manufacturing tolerances usually warrant for overhead transmission conductors and requires a very small investment in computation cost. A table of skin-effect resistance factors that covers a wide range of standard aluminum conductors has been computed.

TL;DR: An efficient mechanism to guarantee the integrity of cloud storage systems using network-coding-based regenerating codes, and a group testing method for linear functions based on bisections, whose worst case scenario is not worse than transmitting each file individually.
Abstract: In this article, we present an efficient mechanism to guarantee the integrity of cloud storage systems using network-coding-based regenerating codes. Regenerating codes are a special type of erasure codes with the property that regenerating a failed encoded server, can be done using significantly less information than the size of the original data. Our proposal includes two protocols that allow a file owner to verify an outsourced storage facility is storing its information without downloading the file itself. One of them can be used an unlimited number of times (unbounded use), but involves higher information transmission for a single verification. The other one, must precompute results in advance (bounded use), but has a lower overhead for each verification. For the bounded-use proposal, we make use of the linear properties of the dot product and special key management strategies to reduce the overhead in systems with many servers. In addition to these protocols, we present a way to guarantee the file can be recovered by any combination of at least k servers in polynomial time in the number of servers. As an additional application, we present how our constructions can be used to reduce network usage for users, when uploading personal multimedia libraries to cloud music services. For this application, we devised a group testing method for linear functions based on bisections, whose worst case scenario is not worse than transmitting each file individually. Since our result applies independently of the composition of the input, the method is of independent interest.

TL;DR: In this article, a simplified two-sector model is presented in which the "overhead capital" sector exhibits increasing returns to scale, and basic properties of the optimal growth path are discussed and the optimal policy is explicitly demonstrated.
Abstract: Summary: Following closely the approach to optimal economic growth taken in the work of Frank Ramsey (1928), a highly simplified two-sector model is presented in which the "overhead capital" sector exhibits increasing returns to scale. Basic properties of the optimal growth path are discussed and the optimal policy is explicitly demonstrated for a special case. From an economic standpoint, the model might be relevant in bearing on some issues of development programming. Mathematically, this kind of a model has an interesting structure because it is a combination of convex and concave sub-problems.
