Abstract: Selective oxidation of secondary alcohols to ketones and of primary alcohols to aldehyde with good yields (up to ca. 30 turnovers per minute), were achieved by using hypochlorite in the presence of catalytic amounts of ruthenium(II) complexes in a biphasic water-dichloromethane system.
