TL;DR: In this paper, the level of powdered toner in a toner reservoir of a printer or copier is determined by ascertaining the time that it takes a stirring paddle to rotate from a second of two fixed ridges adjacent the top of the reservoir until the toner is engaged.
Abstract: The level of powdered toner in a toner reservoir of a printer or copier is determined by ascertaining the time that it takes a stirring paddle to rotate from a second of two fixed ridges adjacent the top of the reservoir until the toner is engaged. A sensor, which is preferably a piezoelectric element or a strain gauge, is preferably mounted on the end of the stirring paddle to engage each of the two fixed ridges. When the sensor flexes after engaging each of the ridges, two closely spaced electrical pulse are produced. When the sensor engages the toner, another electrical pulse is produced, and the time between the second and third pulses is used to determine the level of the toner in the toner reservoir. If the stirring paddle is flexible, it may engage the ridges and the toner so that the sensor could be mounted on the stirring paddle to not engage the ridges or the toner but only to sense flexing of the stirring paddle for producing the electrical pulses. Instead of using the ridges, an emitter wheel may be employed to produce a pulse when the stirring paddle is in its substantially vertical position.

TL;DR: In this article, a semiconductor device package is provided which can accommodate currents larger than those of similarly sized standard device packages such as the TO-247, and an improved mold clamping area is also provided which reduces the area from which damaging moisture can enter the molded package and increases the distance required for moisture to contact the die.
Abstract: A semiconductor device package is provided which can accommodate currents larger than those of similarly sized standard device packages such as the “TO-247” package. Higher currents are accommodated by allowing a larger semiconductor die to be mounted on the device's lead frame than can be mounted on a similarly sized standard package. An improved mold clamping area is also provided which reduces the area from which damaging moisture can enter the molded package and increases the distance required for moisture to contact the die. Clip arrangements are also provided to mount the device package to a circuit board or heat sink, thereby allowing the increased operating temperatures associated with the increased operating currents to be efficiently dissipated. The semiconductor device package has a lead frame having a large area paddle section and at least one leg extending therefrom, the lead frame being of substantially constant thickness, and the paddle section being continuous and free of openings therethrough. A semiconductor die is mounted to the paddle section of the lead frame, the semiconductor die occupying substantially all of the surface area of a side of the paddle section upon which the semiconductor die is mounted. The full surface of the die and at least the side of the paddle section upon which the semiconductor die is mounted are covered by a common and uninterrupted mold housing.

TL;DR: A kayak paddle with a generally straight shaft that is preferably about 0.7 inches in diameter, the shaft is also conically tapered at either end, and a left hand grip and a right hand grip are mounted on the shaft, and there is a blade at each end of the shaft.
Abstract: A kayak paddle with a generally straight shaft that is preferably about 0.7 inches in diameter, the shaft is also conically tapered at either end. A left hand grip and a right hand grip are mounted on the shaft, and there is a blade at either end of the shaft. The blades each have a conically tapered socket to accept the tapered ends of the shaft. A portion of the socket remains vacant when the shaft is fully inserted, the vacant portion of the socket serves to trap sufficient air to ensure that the paddle will float. The mechanical connections thus formed prevent the shaft from rotating in the blade sockets and also minimize the amount of stress placed on the adhesive used to fix the shaft in the sockets. The grips ensure that the user's hands can be consistently placed and oriented on the shaft; because of the small diameter of the shaft, the user's hands can easily encircle the grips, and the user is thereby afforded a high degree of control over the paddle. Further, the grips are contoured so as to more ergonomically position the user's hands at natural gripping angles, with respect to the horizontal axis of the shaft; the natural gripping angles serve to minimize stresses on the user's wrists, hands, and arms. Additionally, the contours of the grips substantially prevent the user's hands from sliding along the shaft, and prevent the shaft from rotating in the user's hands. Finally, the grips have knuckle guards, preferably integrally formed with the grips, which serve to protect the user's hands in the event of an impact with obstructions such as rocks or trees.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of the paddle geometry and location on the uniformity of a reverberation chamber were studied in detail when the location and size of a paddle are varied.
Abstract: This paper is a continuation of a basic three-dimensional reverberation chamber model we built using FDTD as described previously (1999). In this paper, the uniformity is studied in detail when the location of the paddle and the relative size of the paddle are varied. The objective of the study is to find the effects of the paddle geometry and location on the uniformity of a reverberation chamber. Simulation results show that the paddle located on the ceiling can achieve a better uniformity than when located at the side of the chamber. With a big paddle ratio (PR), there is an increase in the effectiveness of the paddle. The paddle size should be at least half of the chamber dimension to limit the spatial deviation of average field around 3dB in terms of amplitude and 3% in terms of angle.
