Abstract: One of the main tasks involving the development of a new spacecraft is how to distribute its electronic equipment over its structural panels. This problem is first addressed in the conception phase of the design and is traditionally carried out by a group of system engineers. It is a multidisciplinary task since structural, thermal, dynamics, and integration issues, must all be taken into account simultaneously. Usually, the initial positioning is done based on the engineers’ experience, followed by an analysis stage (thermal, structural, etc.) in which the design performance and constraints are verified. This process takes time and hence, as soon as a good feasible design is found, it is taken as the baseline. This precludes a broad exploration of the conceptual design space, which usually leads to a suboptimal layout design. In this paper the main features of a multi-objective methodology are presented which were developed to automatically find solutions for a three-dimensional layout of equipment in spacecraft. It includes mass, inertia, thermal and subsystem requirements and geometric constraints using a multi-objective approach that combines CAD and optimization tools in an integrated environment. As a case study, the methodology was applied to the layout optimization of the Brazilian Multi-Mission Space Platform (MMP) equipment. The main results are presented.

Abstract: This article presents an integrated computer simulation–stochastic data envelopment analysis (SDEA) approach to deal with the job shop facility layout design problem (JSFLD) with stochastic outputs and safety and environmental factors. Stochastic outputs are defined as non-crisp operational and deterministic inputs. At first, feasible layout alternatives are generated under expert decision. Then, computer simulation network is used for performance modelling of each layout design. The outputs of simulation are average time-in-system, average queue length and average machine utilisation. Finally, SDEA is used with Lingo software for finding the optimum layout alternative amongst all feasible generated alternatives with respect to stochastic, safety and environmental indicators. Abstract: Highly stiff and lightweight machine tool structures are very important for improving machining accuracy. How to reasonably arrange stiffeners is one of the problems that designers must solve to achieve required structural performances. This paper presents a practical approach for stiffener layout design, which is inspired by the adaptive growth phenomenon observed in nature. Firstly, a mathematical model is built to provide theoretical basis for the adaptive growth of stiffeners to the applied load. Then a corresponding algorithm is developed to realize the generation of stiffener layout, during which the growth rates are determined by the generalized heights of stiffeners and the growth directions by branching and degenerating operations. When applying the approach to redesign an actual machine tool bed structure, a simple spring model is introduced, which can greatly reduce computation cost by transforming the 3D stiffener layout design problem into a 2D one. Numerical and experimental results show the stiffness enhancement, and thus, the applicability and validity of the approach are proved.

The invention further provides a page display device. Through the method and device, a client can be adapt to modification of entity attributes, compatibility of the client version is enhanced, development and maintenance cost of the client is reduced, and iterative development of the client is more efficient.

Abstract: To reduce layout design time, analog layout designers prefer referring to legacy designs and layouts rather than starting from scratch, or thoroughly applying placement and routing tools because legacy layouts contain pretty much design expertise. Therefore, this paper presents the first knowledge-based layout synthesis methodology to generate new layouts by integrating existent design expertise contained in the quality-approved legacy layouts as much as possible. Experimental results show that the proposed methodology with knowledge mining can achieve high layout reusage rate and hence the designers' layout preference can be successfully reserved.

Abstract: Described are devices, methods, and non-transitory computer readable media for automatically configuring a layout of content for online publishing or display on an electronic device in a visually pleasing and professional manner The described techniques allow the content to be organized and displayed in a magazine-style layout and design, without a need for high level programming skills or special tools. A layout engine receives content selected by a user for display, configures a first level layout of the content based on a first set of attributes of the content, which includes determining a number of story containers needed to display the stories in the content, and configures a second level layout of a respective story in the content based on a second set of attributes of the respective story in the content. The first level layout determines the high level configuration of the entire display page (e.g., a page layout), and the second level layout determines the lower level configuration for each story container on the display page (e.g., a story layout).

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method and apparatus to create a physical layout for electron-beam lithography, comprising defining a layout grid for a physical design, the layout grid further comprising vertical grid lines which coincide with stitching lines resulting from partitioning the physical design into a plurality of subfields. The physical design is assembled in accordance with design restrictions regarding interaction between design shapes and the layout grid. In some embodiments, the design restrictions are realized though layout restrictions. In some embodiments, the design restrictions are realized by shifting standard cells to minimize design shape interaction with the layout grid in a post-layout step. In some embodiments, the design restrictions are realized by exchanging positions between a plurality of standard cells for an exchange permutation which minimizes the number of interactions in a post-layout step. In some embodiments a routing grid is refined to rule out interactions between a subset of design constructs and the layout grid. Remaining design shape placement is then optimized along the routing grid relative to the stitching lines.

The complete interface based on the XML and the script language is redesigned, and a dynamically-loadable, configurable and separable user interface system and a flexible user interface, namely a business behavior binding mechanism, are achieved. Businesses and interface logic are thoroughly separated, application behaviors, such as interfaces of an application and business flows, are updated and modified without re-releasing the application.

Abstract: The invention discloses a workshop layout method of a discrete manufacturing system. The workshop layout method comprises the specific steps: a system UI layer is used for recording workshop equipment and production information to a layout design platform; a model establishing layer is arranged; an inter-row equipment distribution mathematic model, an in-row equipment sorting mathematic model, an inter-procedure batch division mathematic model and a layout scheme performance estimation model are established respectively according to the recorded workshop information; a workshop layout optimization subsystem is arranged; a workshop layout design result estimation and display module is arranged. A user sends a layout design scheme to a server through module permission and workshop management staffs execute optimized results. The workshop layout method has the advantages that the defects that the workshop layout overall performance is reduced, caused by the fact that common layout optimization only considers block layout of a machining station, are avoided. Meanwhile, the optimal distribution of task amounts of an equipment workshop is considered under the condition that a plurality of sets of equipment of front and rear procedures are utilized, and the logistics transportation amount is further reduced by utilizing third-grade optimization.

Abstract: We integrate coding techniques and layout design to eliminate write-disturb in phase change memories (PCMs), while enhancing lifetime and host-visible capacity. We first propose a checkerboard configuration for cell layout to eliminate write-disturb while doubling the memory lifetime. We then introduce two methods to jointly design Write-Once-Memory (WOM) codes and layout. The first WOM-layout design improves the lifetime by more than double without compromising the host-visible capacity. The second design applies WOM codes to even more dense layouts to achieve both lifetime and capacity gains. The constructions demonstrate that substantial improvements to lifetime and host-visible capacity are possible by co-designing coding and cell layout in PCM.

Abstract: The placement of production equipments plays a major role in designing a layout in cellular manufacturing. The better placement increases the productivity. This article introduces a new algorithm to design and optimize a fixed area cellular layout problem by using an artificial bee colony (ABC) technique which is based on the intelligent foraging behavior of a honeybee. The objective of this article is to determine the physical arrangement of work centers by minimizing the total traveling distance of the product. Volume of the product and distance between the work centers are the important factors that affect layout design. Some relative importance factors like priority of products, hazardous moves, and back-tracking moves are considered in this article. Layout moment ratio helps to compare the different proposed layouts. The higher layout moment ratio is the more desirable layout. Also this article compares the results of ABC technique with genetic algorithm (GA) and simulated annealing (SA) algorithm based on the total moment value, layout moment ratio, number of iterations, computation time, and back-tracking movements. Finally, it concluded that ABC is a better technique to solve fixed area cellular layout problems than the mentioned algorithms with high dimensionality.

Abstract: The invention discloses an automatic page type setting method and belongs to the technical field of cross-media publishing, digital publishing, network printing and the like. In an existing type setting process, generally a manual method is adopted to set type of words and corresponding images, and the efficiency is low; or the automatic type setting is conducted on words or images separately only for the condition that the page column number is fixed, the pages are monotonous, and the complex conditions when a page contains multiple image and word elements can not be satisfied. According to the method, the words and images to be set are transformed into formative content, parameterized rectangle blocks are formed, then according to the area of the rectangle blocks, constraint information is judged, automatic type setting is conducted according to a sequencing and locating method, and in the type setting process, according to the page layout, an optimal automatic type setting result is finally obtained through a recall mode. By the adoption of the method, the matching and locating on words and images can be conducted rapidly and automatically, the accurate position and relative position relation of the words and images on the page are guaranteed, and the type setting efficiency is greatly improved.

Abstract: Over the last few years, there has been tremendous growth in digitizing collections of cultural heritage documents. Thus, many challenges and open issues have been raised, such as information retrieval in digital libraries or analyzing page content of historical books. Recently, an important need has emerged which consists in designing a computer-aided characterization and categorization tool, able to index or group historical digitized book pages according to several criteria, mainly the layout structure and/or typographic/graphical characteristics of the historical document image content. Thus, the work conducted in this thesis presents an automatic approach for characterization and categorization of historical book pages. The proposed approach is applicable to a large variety of ancient books. In addition, it does not assume a priori knowledge regarding document image layout and content. It is based on the use of texture and graph algorithms to provide a rich and holistic description of the layout and content of the analyzed book pages to characterize and categorize historical book pages. The categorization is based on the characterization of the digitized page content by texture, shape, geometric and topological descriptors. This characterization is represented by a structural signature. More precisely, the signature-based characterization approach consists of two main stages. The first stage is extracting homogeneous regions. Then, the second one is proposing a graph-based page signature which is based on the extracted homogeneous regions, reflecting its layout and content. Afterwards, by comparing the different obtained graph-based signatures using a graph-matching paradigm, the similarities of digitized historical book page layout and/or content can be deduced. Subsequently, book pages with similar layout and/or content can be categorized and grouped, and a table of contents/summary of the analyzed digitized historical book can be provided automatically. As a consequence, numerous signature-based applications (e.g. information retrieval in digital libraries according to several criteria, page categorization) can be implemented for managing effectively a corpus or collections of books. To illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed page signature, a detailed experimental evaluation has been conducted in this work for assessing two possible categorization applications, unsupervised page classification and page stream segmentation. In addition, the different steps of the proposed approach have been evaluated on a large variety of historical document images.

Abstract: Web page segmentation has extensive value in web applications. As the traditional method which only based on Document Object Model (Dom) tree poorly reflects the actual semantic structure of a page, the vision-based measures which attempt to understand the perception of user have attracted great concern in recently. Moreover, the visual page layout structuring is more suitable to suggest a semantic partitioning of a page. Vision-based Page Segmentation (VIPS) algorithm is a notable technique which improves the situation that the visual effect is not consistent with the corresponding DOM tree of web pages. However, due to the increasing complicated structure of web pages and ever-changing of web design, the rules in VIPS become numerous and are no longer fully applicable. To alleviate the shortcoming of VIPS, this paper introduces Hough transform in image processing and takes advantage from DOM trees and visual cues. Our proposed method first extracts the visual separator in web pages according to the perceptive of web designers, then adjusts the segmented information blocks by Hough transformation in the hope of enhancing the VIPS algorithm compatibility and improving the performance of information extraction in applications. The quality of our proposed method is evaluated by subjective and objective measurements, and the experiment results show that this method has come to an anticipant result which even better than the classical one.

Abstract: This paper primarily presents a comprehensive dynamic layout design model which integrates layout and transportation system design via considering more realistic assumptions, such as taking account of fixed-position departments and distance between departments that endanger each other. In addition, specific criteria such as capacity, cost and reliability of facilities are considered in transportation system design decision. The combinatorial nature of the problem necessitates using a meta-heuristic approach to deal with this issue. Therefore, an efficient hybrid meta-heuristic based on variable neighborhood search (VNS) and simulated annealing (SA) is proposed to design a proper dynamic layout for a specific planning horizon. The validity of the superiority of the proposed solution method is proven through comparing with all of the other solution methods upon the original model available in the literature. Finally, an extensive computational results lead to the conclusion that the proposed method outperforms other existing methods. In addition, solving an example from the dynamic layout design of a home appliance manufacturer demonstrates the efficiency of the proposed model and solution algorithm in terms of solution quality to solve real-world instances.

Unlike conventional solutions, a binder within the layout editor of the EDA is not required to bind layout transparent instances to corresponding instances in a related schematic design file or records. Instead, the EDA may identify non-transparent instances at a lower-level of the layout design's hierarchy to bind, because the systems and methods described herein provide for a transparent instance container at a hierarchically higher-level.
