Abstract: Creating multiple layout alternatives for graphical user interfaces to accommodate different screen orientations for mobile devices is labor intensive. Here, we investigate how such layout alternatives can be generated automatically from an initial layout. Providing good layout alternatives can inspire developers in their design work and support them to create adaptive layouts. We performed an analysis of layout alternatives in existing apps and identified common real-world layout transformation patterns. Based on these patterns we developed a prototype that generates landscape and portrait layout alternatives for an initial layout. In general, there is a very large number of possibilities of how widgets can be rearranged. For this reason we developed a classification method to identify and evaluate “good” layout alternatives automatically. From this set of “good” layout alternatives, designers can choose suitable layouts for their applications. In a questionnaire study we verified that our method generates layout alternatives that appear well structured and are easy to use.

Abstract: The layout problem is of importance to ergonomists, vehicle/cockpit packaging engineers, designers of manufacturing assembly lines, designers concerned with the placement of levers, knobs, controls, etc. in the reachable workspace of a human, and also to users of digital human modeling code, where digital prototyping has become a valuable tool. This paper proposes a hybrid optimization method gradient-based optimization and simulated annealing to obtain the layout design. We implemented the proposed algorithm for a project at Oral-B Laboratories, where a manufacturing cell involves an operator who handles three objects, some with the left hand, others with the right hand.

The storage engine rearranges data among the plurality of memories by the unit of a page by monitoring workloads for data stored in the memories and reconfigures a page layout by the unit of the page based on a data access characteristic of an application for each of pages constituting each of the plurality of memories.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a layout adjustment method and apparatus for a message notification display page. The message notification display page comprises a first region used for displaying a message notification and a second region used for displaying prompt information and/or a function shortcut switch. The method comprises: detecting the number of a current message notification or the number of an application that the current message notification comes from; and based on the number of the current message notification or the number of the application, selecting and loading one page layout among at least two page layouts, wherein a space occupied by the second region in a page among the at least two page layouts is different so as to adapt to a change of the first region. Therefore, the purpose of checking the message notification, the prompt information and/or the function shortcut function in the same page can be achieved, and in the case of a relatively few message notifications, other information can be displayed in the same page by using valuable display space and uses can checking the information without switching the pages by sliding back and forth, so that more convenience is achieved.
