TL;DR: In this article, a GUI developer can drag and drop components from a palette to a container, and the developer can specify row and column types and attachment/alignment options for the component.
Abstract: Graphical user interface and computer program products are disclosed for providing a unique user interface that allows a GUI developer significant flexibility and strength in designing a layout for an application user interface in a JavaTM environment. This is done while keeping the process for the developer simple and efficient. The developer can 'drag and drop' components from a palette to a container. Once in the container, the developer can specify row and column types and attachment/alignment options for the component. This can be done using a simple icon set. The developer can also dynamically add new rows and columns to the layout design. Adjustments to the position and size of a component are made automatically and numerous row and column types can be specified.

TL;DR: In this paper, a mathematical model for facility layout in a cellular manufacturing system is proposed that minimizes both inter-cell and intra-cell material handling costs, and a variant of simulated annealing algorithm is developed to solve the model.

TL;DR: An efficient technique for document page layout structure extraction and classification by analyzing the spatial configuration of the bounding boxes of different entities on the given image by segments an image into a list of homogeneous zones.
Abstract: The paper presents an efficient technique for document page layout structure extraction and classification by analyzing the spatial configuration of the bounding boxes of different entities on the given image. The algorithm segments an image into a list of homogeneous zones. The classification algorithm labels each zone as test, table, line-drawing, halftone, ruling, or noise. The text lines and words are extracted within text zones and neighboring text lines are merged to form text blocks. The tabular structure is further decomposed into row and column items. Finally, the document layout hierarchy is produced from these extracted entities.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose four methods to determine the objective weight for each objective in a multi-objective facility layout problem, which makes the design process of mFLP completely designer independent.
Abstract: Multi-objective facility layout problem (mFLP) generates a different layout by varying objectives weights. Since the selection of objective weights in mFLP is critical, stages of designing layout having multiple objectives, the objective weights therefore play an important role in the layout design of mFLP. In practice, it is selected randomly by the layout designer based on his/her past experience that restricts the layout designing process completely designer dependent and thus the layout varies from designer to designer. This paper aims to resolve the issues of selecting the objective weight for each objective. We propose four methods to determine objective weight which makes the design process of mFLP completely designer independent.

TL;DR: This research extends the previous investigation of the automation of the preliminary design stage to the layout design stage of the cooling system design process, and develops a framework for fuzzy evaluation of the layout designs to rate the various design alternatives generated.
Abstract: This research extends our previous investigation of the automation of the preliminary design stage to the layout design stage of the cooling system design process. While the functional aspects of the cooling system are considered during the preliminary design stage, the layout design stage addresses both the functionality and manufacturability of the design. A graph structure is devised to capture a given preliminary design and a graph traversal algorithm is developed to generate candidate cooling circuits from the graph structure. Heuristic search is employed to develop the cooling circuits into the layout designs by generation of tentative manufacturing plans. A framework for fuzzy evaluation of the layout designs is developed to rate the various design alternatives generated. An experimental system is implemented to verify the feasibility of the approach, and examples generated from the system are presented to illustrate the major steps of the automatic design process.
