TL;DR: In this article, a two-step layout design method to consider both loaded and empty vehicle movements is developed to guarantee a complete layout design, where the flow path selection problem is formulated to design guidepath layout with the objective of minimizing loaded vehicle movements.
Abstract: We address the problem of unidirectional guidepath layout design for automated guided vehicle systems- A two-step layout design method to consider both loaded and empty vehicle movements is developed to guarantee a complete layout design. First, the flow path selection (FPS) problem is formulated to design guidepath layout with the objective of minimizing loaded vehicle movements. Both a mathematical model and a heuristic algorithm for FPS are presented. Since AGV guidepath layouts are used by both loaded and empty vehicles, the FPS does not guarantee a closed or complete layout design. For the case when an incomplete or unclosed layout is produced from the first step, a complementary layout design (CLD) approach to convert the incomplete layout into complete one with the consideration of empty vehicle movements is considered in the second step. A heuristic for the CLD problem is developed. An example problem is used to illustrate the whole design approach.

TL;DR: A page layout view of a spreadsheet is presented for display in this paper, where a single interface screen enables a user to enter and revise data in a cell area of the spreadsheet, as well as manipulate a format of spreadsheet as it will appear on a printed page.
Abstract: A page layout view of a spreadsheet is presented for display. The page layout view presents a single interface screen enabling a user to enter and revise data in a cell area of the spreadsheet, as well as manipulate a format of the spreadsheet as it will appear on a printed page. Page layout parameters such as page size, orientation, and margins are determined, and a rectangle is formed to model the page layout parameters. A border of the rectangle represents margins of the page, and an area surrounded by that border is mapped for the presentation of editable data cells. A number of cells that can be fitted in the area surrounded by the rectangle border are superimposed onto the rectangle, which is presented on a display. A plurality of rectangles representing several such pages may optionally be presented on the display at one time.

TL;DR: In this article, an artificial immune system (AIS) algorithm is proposed for solving the unidirectional loop layout problem with the consideration of both min_sum and min_max objectives.
Abstract: Facility layout design is a significant aspect of designing any manufacturing setup and it has a huge impact on the performance of the manufacturing system. Reductions in operating expenses in a manufacturing system is greatly achieved by a good layout design. The problem of finding an optimal layout is hard and deterministic techniques are not suitable for large-sized problems. In this paper, a two-phase layout design is developed. As a first phase of layout design, an artificial immune system (AIS) algorithm is proposed for solving the unidirectional loop layout problem with the consideration of both min_sum and min_max objectives. The computational results showed that the AIS algorithm is efficient in solving layout problems and producing good-quality solutions. In the second phase, shortcuts are introduced in the flow path of the loop layout to enhance the performance of the system. The position of the shortcut in the loop which gives the minimum material handling cost is discovered.

TL;DR: In this article, a system and method to generate a style sheet comprising the steps of first determining a set of layout constraints such as design criteria to act as soft constraints or additionally include the requirements of a particular output device.
Abstract: What is disclosed is a system and method to generate a style sheet comprising the steps of first determining a set of layout constraints such as design criteria to act as ‘soft’ constraints or could additionally include the requirements of a particular output device. Alternatively, the constraints could be explicitly specified or expressed as properties of a good layout design. Next, the present method has the step of representing the style properties of the document as problem variables. These variables could advantageously include font, text line, or color properties in addition to positioning properties including graphical style. Then, solving the constraint problem and outputting the generated style properties in the form of a style sheet wherein the style sheet is a Cascaded Style Sheet (CSS) or an Extensible Style Language (XSL) specification.
