TL;DR: In this paper, a heuristic approach called the MAIN (Machines Allocation Inter-relationship) algorithm for intracellular machine layout design is introduced, where a single period with a fixed quantitative demand and machine assignment is based on a set of proposed objective functions together with merging techniques.
Abstract: When a static machine layout is simply optimized to a fixed quantitative demand, it may not be able to cope with demand fluctuations. The development of a heuristic approach called the MAIN (Machines Allocation INter-relationship) algorithm for intracellular machine layout design is introduced. It begins by analysing a single period with a fixed quantitative demand and machine assignment is based on a set of proposed objective functions together with merging techniques. To simulate the demand fluctuations in a multiple periods planning horizon, layouts are generated to fit different demand profiles. Each layout is then processed further. First, at every periodic transition, there is re-layout to minimize the material-handling cost. Second, we will examine the condition of using a layout right through all the periods to keep away from the machine rearrangement cost with some scarifications of the material-handling cost. Comparisons will be done to seek out good machine layout(s). In terms of a single-perio...

TL;DR: In this article, intermediate data having a data form different from print data is generated in logical page unit, and the logical pages are edited in accordance with the page layout, such that the amount of data conversion at the time of printing an outline of contents of the page is reduced.
Abstract: To perform page-layout printing, intermediate data having a data form different from print data is generated. The generated intermediate data is controlled in logical page unit, and the logical pages are edited in accordance with the page layout. On a physical page, a plurality of logical pages are reduced and laid out. A character print command, an image rendering command, and a graphic rendering command are replaced with predetermined data by the intermediate-data replacement editing process so as to reduce the amount of data to be outputted. As a result, the amount of data conversion at the time of printing an outline of contents of the page is reduced, and printing time can be reduced.

TL;DR: In this article, a reproduction process system is provided for executing a variety of reproduction-related processes without individually specifying page construction data each time, thus improving working efficiency of each process worker.
Abstract: A reproduction process system is provided for executing a variety of reproduction-related processes without individually specifying page construction data each time, thus improving working efficiency of each process worker. In such reproduction process system a magnetic disk unit includes a plurality of job name directories each having a plurality of page number sub-directories. Each page number sub-directory stores page layout data corresponding to a page specified by the page number, picture data, and linework data. When the process worker specifies a desirable job name and a target page number, data of a target page corresponding to page layout data in a page number sub-directory specified by the desirable job name and the target page number are automatically displayed on a CRT screen.

TL;DR: In this paper, a heuristic approach for the optimum layout design of two-dimensional reinforced concrete frames in order to optimize the total cost and control the application under wind loadings is presented.
Abstract: The geometric layout optimization of a structure is a significant stage in a design process, and selecting an appropriate geometric layout can impact all the subsequent stages of the design procedure and the relevant costs. This study presents a heuristic approach for the optimum layout design of two-dimensional reinforced concrete frames in order to optimize the total cost and controls the application under wind loadings. The aim is to find the optimum column layout design for 2D frames under wind loadings considering the involved cost elements. A heuristic methodology is developed in order to achieve a new design space and an objective function for the cost and layout optimization problem. The proposed method has the capability to make use of action effects of the structure as alternative design variables in place of the commonly used cross-sectional ones. Such a feature provides the method the ability to be easily employed in large and realistic structural optimization problems, and helps the optimization algorithms to take less time, in an iterative optimization process. Then, an Ant System based algorithm is proposed to solve the presented optimization problem. Examples are included to illustrate the robustness of the methodology.

TL;DR: In this article, a system layout design program that can automatically generate an efficient system configuration is presented, and an evaluation section evaluates the system layouts generated by the system layout generation section on the basis of evaluation criteria designated in advance.
Abstract: A system layout design program that can automatically generate an efficient system configuration. A system layout generation section associates units for performing functions indicated by logical system conditions with the logical system conditions and generates system layouts indicative of the association of the units with all of the logical system conditions. An evaluation section evaluates the system layouts generated by the system layout generation section on the basis of evaluation criteria designated in advance and stores a system layout evaluated most highly in a system layout storage section as a design result.
