TL;DR: In this paper, a presentation skeleton file can be used to generate XSLT style sheets for many devices that use the same mark-up language and demonstrate Web sites statically before constructing them for real.
Abstract: Device-type-specific XSLT style sheets (or equivalent) are generated from page layout files or ‘presentation skeleton’ files which define a Web page layout including abstract component references that can be mapped to complex, device-specific or repeated style sheet components and are more easily constructed than XSLT style sheets. The presentation skeleton files use and extend existing mark-up languages. One presentation skeleton file can be used to generate XSLT style sheets for many devices that use the same mark-up language. In addition, presentation skeleton files can be produced directly from storyboard files to demonstrate Web sites statically before constructing them for real. This provides a route from initial Web site design to final implementation for multiple output devices.

TL;DR: In this article, an improved document processing system is described where objects such as text areas, numerical tables or graphic data may be assigned to a fixed location within a document, and the system automatically allocates layout areas that surround the fixed areas without overlapping.
Abstract: An improved document processing system is disclosed wherein objects such as text areas, numerical tables or graphic data may be assigned a fixed location within a document. The system automatically allocates layout areas that surround the fixed areas without overlapping. Means are provided for linking text from one side of a fixed object to the other side while automatically maximizing the area available for free text or other objects. The invention allows an infinite number of fixed objects, and automatically generates page layout. In addition, the invention allows the user to set page size, page margins, and the size of fixed-position objects relative to page size. The system allows the use of numerous page formats, including multiple columns, and then automatically generates page layouts where the text area is maximized. These steps require a minimum of interaction with the user.

TL;DR: In this article, a mixed integer programming formulation for the facility layout problem is adapted and heuristically solved in order to minimize the material flow costs between cells in a flexible manufacturing system.
Abstract: The flexible manufacturing system (FMS) facility layout problem (FLP) involves the positioning of cells within a given area so as to minimize the material flow costs between cells. The FLP design includes specifying the spatial coordinates of each cell, the orientation of each cell in either a horizontal or vertical position, and the position of each cell's pickup and dropoff points. The layout design problem is both tactically and strategically important since the layout plays a large role in determining the efficiency and flexibility of the system. The FMS layout problem differs from traditional layout problems in that there are additional constraints on a cell's shape and orientation and the location of the pickup/ dropoff points must be determined. A mixed integer programming formulation for the FLP developed by Das (1993) is adapted and heuristically solved in this paper. Because of the NP-hard nature of the solution space, a genetic algorithm based decomposition strategy is proposed and computationa...

TL;DR: This study used a Hopfield neural network to allocate the given apparatuses and equipment to the bearing plate surfaces in the satellite module, and integrated genetic algorithm/particle swarm optimization (GA/PSO) and quasi-principal component analysis (QPCA) to deal with the further detailed layout optimization.
Abstract: This paper presents a hybrid method using soft computing techniques to deal with layout design problem of a satellite module. This problem is a three-dimensional layout optimization problem with behavioral constraints, and is difficult to solve in polynomial time. In this study, we firstly used a Hopfield neural network (HNN) to allocate the given apparatuses and equipment to the bearing plate surfaces in the satellite module. Then, we integrated genetic algorithm/particle swarm optimization (GA/PSO) and quasi-principal component analysis (QPCA) to deal with the further detailed layout optimization. The numerical experimental results showed the feasibility and efficiency of our method for layout optimization of a satellite module.
