TL;DR: In this article, a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model is proposed for grid generation that ensures packing, alignment, grouping, and preferential positioning of elements, which can be used for interactive diversification, enhancement, and completion of grid layouts.
Abstract: Grid layouts are used by designers to spatially organise user interfaces when sketching and wireframing. However, their design is largely time consuming manual work. This is challenging due to combinatorial explosion and complex objectives, such as alignment, balance, and expectations regarding positions. This paper proposes a novel optimisation approach for the generation of diverse grid-based layouts. Our mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model offers a rigorous yet efficient method for grid generation that ensures packing, alignment, grouping, and preferential positioning of elements. Further, we present techniques for interactive diversification, enhancement, and completion of grid layouts (Figure 1). These capabilities are demonstrated using GRIDS1, a wireframing tool that provides designers with real-time layout suggestions. We report findings from a ratings study (N = 13) and a design study (N = 16), lending evidence for the benefit of computational grid generation during early stages of design.

TL;DR: An apparatus for setting page layouts from a number of input textual items, the apparatus having provision for storing the page parameters and the allowable range of parameters for each of the items respectively, was presented in this paper, where the machine has provision for accepting a rejection of the page makeup by the compositor, whereupon it composes a different trial page and presents it for inspection.
Abstract: An apparatus for setting page layouts from a number of input textual items, the apparatus having provision for storing the page parameters and the allowable range of parameters for each of the items respectively, and also having provision for storing the textual items for retrieval category by category; wherein the apparatus selects items by category and adjusts the item format to conform with the page parameters for each item seriatim until a page has been composed, and then presents the composed trial page for assessment by a human compositor; and wherein the machine has provision for accepting a rejection of the page makeup by the compositor, whereupon it composes a different trial page and presents it for inspection.

TL;DR: A program for simple data analysis and report design is described, which can be used interactively as well as driven from a prepared script, and uses a device independent graphic system.
Abstract: A program for simple data analysis and report design is described. The design emphasizes flexibility, ease of use, and rapid interactive response. These considerations are discussed in relation to the choices that may be made in the analysis and display design process. The analysis may be directed and monitored at several points - data selection and calibration, binning, choice of data scaling, choice of graphic variable, and scaling of the graphic variable. Table rows and columns can be re-organized by operators such as ranking, sequencing and grouping, and re-computed from arithmetic combinations of existing rows and columns. Where the raw data represents different cases scored over the same attributes, profile tables can be computed in a systematic fashion. Interactive report design is supported by a variety of page layout and chart annotation directives, which can be used to embellish and adjust the default line, bar and pie charts. The program can be used interactively as well as driven from a prepared script, and uses a device independent graphic system. Although intended to be used primarily with a graphics terminal, at least half the actual use has been conventional report generation on both alphanumeric and graphic terminals.

TL;DR: A new watermarking method for hard IP core copyright protection in physical layout design level based on the constraint concept is presented and the principle is proposed and theWatermarking design flow using commercial EDA design tools is discussed.
Abstract: A new watermarking method for hard IP core copyright protection in physical layout design level based on the constraint concept is presented. It can apply to both VLSI design IP core and full-custom design IP core. The principle is proposed and the watermarking design flow using commercial EDA design tools is discussed. The experiment method to validation our approach is also included in this paper.

TL;DR: The focus of this work is on a plant layout simulation model developed by the Department of Production Engineering, Thermoenergetics and Mathematical Models of the University of Genoa with the use of the commercial software WITNESS™, that enables the discrete event simulation.
Abstract: Modeling and Simulation techniques are often powerful tools devoted to analyze the best layout for an industrial plant. In fact, these methodologies allow investigating the most suitable features or parameters regarding for instance buffer capacities or the number and type of machines and facilities, like for in-stance handling means. In literature, there are many examples of simulation models aiming at reproducing different plant layouts through the use of "What if" analysis. The focus of this work is on a plant layout simulation model developed by the Department of Production Engineering, Thermoenergetics and Mathematical Models of the University of Genoa, with the use of the commercial software WITNESS™, that enables the discrete event simulation. After the description of the model, the results obtained are presented and discussed, highlighting the importance of using this kind of simulation for layout design purposes.
