TL;DR: In this article, the stability of a top-tensioned riser (TTR) in irregular waves was predicted based on multi-frequency excitation, and the results showed that the introduction of extra damping to an unstable system can suppress the instability.

TL;DR: In this paper, the possibility of parametric resonance due to the nonlinearity of swing equation of electric power systems is described, starting with Mathieu-type equation, and the resonance presented here is classified into (i) heteroparametric resonance which is caused by periodic disturbances, e.g. sinusoidal load variations, and (ii) autoparametric Resonance (internal resonance) which is the interference among some dominant modes in transient state.
Abstract: The possibility of parametric resonance due to the nonlinearity of swing equation of electric power systems is described, starting with Mathieu-type equation. The resonance presented here is classified into (i) heteroparametric resonance which is caused by periodic disturbances, e.g. sinusoidal load variations, and (ii) autoparametric resonance (internal resonance) which is the interference among some dominant modes in transient state. The occurrence conditions and Equation of Envelope which govern the aspect of the resonance are presented using the method of multiple scales, and then confirmed by simulations. From the parametric resonance viewpoints, unstable phenomena of long-term dynamics with poor damping are also reviewed with nonlinear analysis and simulations.

TL;DR: In this article, an exponentially tapered Josephson flux-flow oscillator was introduced, which is tuned by applying a bias current to the larger end of the junction, which gives rise to a train of fluxons moving toward the unbiased smaller end.
Abstract: We introduce an exponentially tapered Josephson flux-flow oscillator that is tuned by applying a bias current to the larger end of the junction. Numerical and analytical studies show that above a threshold level of bias current the static solution becomes unstable and gives rise to a train of fluxons moving toward the unbiased smaller end, as in the standard flux-flow oscillator. An exponentially shaped junction provides several advantages over a rectangular junction including: (i) smaller linewidth, (ii) increased output power, (iii) no trapped flux because of the type of current injection, and (iv) better impedance matching to a load. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of pre-instability inertia on the parametric response of layered anisotropic circular cylindrical shells was investigated and the principal regions of parametric resonance were determined numerically from the system of Mathieu equations derived in part I.
