TL;DR: Em um levantamento das especies de Parmotrema A. Massal.
Abstract: A survey of the parmotremoid lichens occurring in the central area of Rio Grande do Sul State (Brazil) revealed 31 species of Parmotrema A. Massal., distributed in three groups corresponding to the former genera Canomaculina Elix & Hale, Parmotrema s. str. and Rimelia Hale & Fletcher. All species are described, illustrated, commented and special notes compare similar species as an aid to identification.

TL;DR: More than 20 minor and trace elements have been determined by INAA (instrumental neutron activation analysis) in different species of lichens in three Portuguese islands of the Central North Atlantic (Santa Maria, Terceira, and Madeira Islands) as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: In this study, more than 20 minor and trace elements have been determined by INAA (instrumental neutron activation analysis), in different species of lichens in three Portuguese islands of the Central North Atlantic (Santa Maria, Terceira, and Madeira Islands). The foliose species Parmotrema bangii, Parmotrema robustum, Parmotrema crinitum, Flavoparmelia caperata, Platismatia glauca, and the fruiticose species Ramalina canariensis, Ramalina farinacea, Ramalina implectens, Ramalina pusilla, Cladonia furcata, Cladonia coniocraea, Usnea dasaea, Usnea esperantiana, were the collected species. Samples of superficial soils were also collected and the fraction below 64 μ m was analysed. The enrichment factors relative to this fraction using Al as the normalising element were calculated. Fruiticose and foliose lichens displayed different EF values concerning bromine and potassium. The first was more enriched in the foliose species while the latter was more enriched in the fruiticose species and was assigned to the physiological response. Enrichment was found for Mg, Cs, As, Hg, Na, Zn, and Cl, in all the species. Lichen-based concentration patterns were shown for Na, Al, Cl, Br, Sb, Ce, and Hg and compared to similar patterns in Portugal mainland. In general, the patterns compared well except for Cl, Na, and Br. Background levels of the epiphytic lichens collected in the islands were obtained.

TL;DR: This report shows that this technique is effective and accurate for rapid chemical identification of lichen substances and the compounds identified could serve as chemotaxonomic markers to differentiate these ruffle lichens.
Abstract: Lichens are symbiotic associations of fungi with microalgae and/or cyanobacteria. Lichens belonging to the Parmeliaceae family comprise 2700 species of lichens, including the Parmotrema genus which is composed of 300 species. The metabolites of this genus include depsides, depsidones, phenolics, polysaccharides, lipids, diphenylethers and dibenzofurans, which are responsible for the biological activities reported including antidiabetic, antihelmintic, anticancer, antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antimitotic, antitumoral, antifungal, and antioxidant enzyme inhibitory. Due to scarce knowledge of metabolomic profiles of Parmotrema species (P. andinum and P. robustum), a full metabolome study based on ultra-high performance liquid chromatography- diode array detector-electrospray ionization-quadrupole-orbitrap-mass-spectrometry (UHPLC-DAD-ESI-Q-orbitrap MS) was performed for a comprehensive characterization of their substances. From the methanolic extracts of these species, a total of 54 metabolites were identified for the first time using this hyphenated technique, including thirty compounds in P. andinum, and thirty-seven in P. robustum. Moreover, two compounds were not identified as known compounds, and could be new structures, according to our data. This report shows that this technique is effective and accurate for rapid chemical identification of lichen substances and the compounds identified could serve as chemotaxonomic markers to differentiate these ruffle lichens.

TL;DR: New racemic dispiranic polyketides, tsavoenones A (1), B (2) and C (3), having a novel 1,7-dioxadispiro[4.0.4.4]tetradecane scaffold were isolated from the foliose lichen Parmotrema tsavoense and displayed a moderate activity against human myelogenous leukemia K562 cell line.
Abstract: New racemic dispiranic polyketides, tsavoenones A (1), B (2) and C (3), having a novel 1,7-dioxadispiro[4.0.4.4]tetradecane scaffold were isolated from the foliose lichen Parmotrema tsavoense. These compounds were structurally elucidated by extensive NMR analyses, comparison between experimental and theoretical 13C NMR data and X-ray crystallography. A putative biosynthetic scenario for the formation of 1-3 from parmosidone D, a meta-depsidone previously isolated from the same lichen material, was proposed. Tested for its cytotoxicity, 1 displayed a moderate activity against human myelogenous leukemia K562 cell line with an IC50 value of 66 μg mL-1.
