TL;DR: In this paper, the state of the art in PD measurements in dielectric liquids to be taken into account when revising the actual IEC 61294TR or preparing new international standards (ASTM).
Abstract: Partial Discharges (PD) detection in HV components has shown to be a very powerful diagnostic tool. Anyway, also the acquisition of the same signals in simple insulations, like the dielectric liquids, may give additional information for maintenance of HV components in which they are employed, as in the case of liquid insulated transformers. Among the standardized electrical tests suggested for the insulating liquids, the breakdown voltage (IEC 60156) and partial discharges determination (IEC 61294TR) at power frequency are not basic material properties but test procedures intended to indicate the presence of contaminants such as water and solid suspended matter and the advisability of carrying out drying and filtration treatment. Nevertheless, the PD detection method for insulating liquids actually standardized is based on superseded circuitry and is only addressed to measure the PD Inception Voltages (PDIV). The present paper shows the state of art in PD measurements in dielectric liquids to be taken into account when revising the actual IEC 61294TR or preparing new international Standards (ASTM).

02 Feb 1979TL;DR: In this paper, a potential detected by a first potential detector through at least a portion of the insulating support is fed to the inputs of a differential amplifier of a partial discharge detecting device to detect possible partial discharges along the support with high sensitivity.
Abstract: In a gas-insulated electric apparatus, such as a gas-insulated switchgear and a gas-insulated bus, having an insulating-gas-filled metallic container or sheath within which an electric conductor carrying a high-voltage current is supported by an insulating supporter, a potential detected by a first potential detector through at least a portion of the insulating supporter and another potential detected as a reference value by a second potential detector through an electro-static capacity disposed between the metallic container and the second potential detector are fed to the inputs of a differential amplifier of a partial discharge detecting device to thereby detect possible partial discharges along the insulating supporter with high sensitivity.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method and apparatus for on-line detection of partial discharge events in an a.c. power system, in which high frequency electromagnetic pulses generated by PDE events are detected and analyzed in the frequency domain and the time domain to determine the type and location of the PDE event.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for on-line detection of partial discharge events in an a.c. power system, in which high frequency electromagnetic pulses generated by partial discharge events are detected and analyzed in the frequency domain and the time domain to determine the type and location of the partial discharge event. The phase relationship between the partial discharge events and the on-line power signal is also examined to help indicate severity of the insulation anomaly giving rise to the partial discharge events.

TL;DR: In this paper, an investigation was undertaken to study the partial discharge behavior of some well-defined dielectric fluids such as phenyl xylene ethane, ditolyl ether, mono and dibenzyl toluene and perfluoro polyether.
Abstract: An investigation was undertaken to study the partial discharge behavior of some well-defined dielectric fluids such as phenyl xylene ethane, ditolyl ether, mono and dibenzyl toluene and perfluoro polyether. The partial discharge inception and extinction voltages of these fluids were determined under uniform and nonuniform field conditions. The results of this study are presented and their significance is discusses in detail. >
