Abstract: A metalclad switchgear assembly for high or medium voltage, having a cladding, includes at least one sensor arranged in an interior space of the cladding for detecting a condition variable within the cladding, the sensor having an antenna; and a transmitting and receiving antenna directed towards the interior space, the transmitting and receiving antenna serving for performing a wireless information interchange with the sensor, and for simultaneously detecting electromagnetically partial discharges in the interior space.

TL;DR: In this paper, the pitch and length of a conductive coil are selected to produce a corona discharge in response to an RF input signal at a predetermined frequency and voltage, through quarter wavelength resonation.
Abstract: A corona source suitable for use in vehicle ignition systems uses a conductive coil that receives an RF input at one end and has a corona discharge site at the other end, with a reference electrode capacitively coupled to the coil. The pitch and the length of the coil are selected to produce a corona discharge in response to an RF input signal at a predetermined frequency and voltage, through quarter wavelength resonation. Either the new resonant coil or other corona discharge devices can be used to remediate fluid-borne wastes by initiating and sustaining RF corona discharges within the fluid. The pulses used to initiate the corona discharge preferably have alternating positive and negative components, with high initial voltages on the positive components to initiate the discharge, followed by lower positive voltage levels to sustain the discharge. Unipolar pulses, preferably with progressively decreasing voltage levels, can also be used.

TL;DR: In this article, a hybrid partial discharge transducer based on the Rogowski coil is developed for online PD detection on a 10kV XLPE covered conductor to prove the effectiveness of this technique.
Abstract: This letter presents an improved technique to identify the traveling direction (TD) of the partial discharge (PD) on the overhead covered conductors. A hybrid PD transducer based on the Rogowski coil is developed for online PD detection. An experimental study is performed on a 10-kV XLPE covered conductor to prove the effectiveness of this technique.

TL;DR: The presented work of bushing PD detection based on UHF sensors provides a complete solution for the bushing diagnosis in potential field application and maintenance.
Abstract: Bushings are essential components in a power transformer where incipient partial discharge (PD) activities and its detection and diagnosis cannot be ignorant. In this paper, an oil-impregnated paper (OIP) bushing is modeled to investigate that the oil gaps between the flange and condenser body in a typical OIP bushing provide a feasible path to trace the electromagnetic signal. As a non-destructive method, UHF (Ultra High Frequency) is proposed to detect 4 typical inside and outside PD defects of 110 kV bushings. To analyze the parameters of different defects, not only phase-resolved partial discharge (PRPD) is presented, but also 16 detailed time-domain and frequency-domain parameters of UHF signal are involved. Then feature extraction and selection are conducted through comparative principal component analysis (PCA) and extremely randomized trees (ET) algorithms. It is revealed that the selected features are representative and ET greatly reduces the amount of data whilst ensuring high accuracy. Fault diagnosis for bushing is finally achieved via support vector machine (SVM) with the selected features. The presented work of bushing PD detection based on UHF sensors provides a complete solution for the bushing diagnosis in potential field application and maintenance.

TL;DR: In this article, a method and device for distinguishing between partial discharge and electrical noise in high voltage conductors such as in motor and generator stators, power cables, gas insulated switchgear and other equipment where high voltage insulation is subject to deterioration.
Abstract: A method and device for distinguishing between partial discharge and electrical noise in high voltage conductors such as in motor and generator stators, power cables, gas insulated switchgear and other equipment where high voltage insulation is subject to deterioration. A series of comparators sets a trigger threshold and a voltage range, set by a computer, whereby pulses falling within the voltage range are sampled at four short intervals and then four longer intervals to produce a general pulse width profile. The voltage range is varied by the computer so that a number of voltage ranges are sampled during each selected portion of an ac cycle. The pulse width of pulses falling within each voltage range is recorded by the computer, and displayed graphically. In a preferred embodiment the device is provided with two channels, for receiving a signal from each end of a partial discharge detector described in U.S. Pat. No. 4,949,001. In a preferred embodiment the method and device provide information concerning the polarity, arrival time and width of the measured pulses, which thus enables the operator to distinguish between partial discharge and noise and to detect the general location from which the pulse originated.
