TL;DR: In this paper, gold electrodes were coated with poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) in order to reduce the contact resistance in pentacene organic field-effect transistors (OFETs).

TL;DR: In this article, a molecular design for small molecules as polycrystalline organic semiconductors in flexible organic thin film transistor applications, providing an improved stability during substrate bending, was proposed.
Abstract: We suggest a molecular design for small molecules as polycrystalline organic semiconductors in flexible organic thin film transistor applications, providing an improved stability during substrate bending. A stable operation of alkyl-substituted sexithiophens was obtained under strain up to ±2.5%. The stability relates to the flexibility of the alkyl chain substitution, scales with their chain length, and outperforms those of pentacene devices. These findings were independent from the underlying dielectric layer.

TL;DR: A new type of soluble pentacene precursor is synthesized, which extrudes a unit of CO upon heating at 150 degrees C, to produce pentacenes in nearly quantitative yield.

TL;DR: In this article, the anisotropy of transient photoconductivity in functionalized pentacene single crystals using ultrafast optical pump-terahertz probe techniques was studied, characterized by crystal structures favoring two-dimensional and one-dimensional charge transports, respectively.
Abstract: We report on the anisotropy of transient photoconductivity in functionalized pentacene single crystals using ultrafast optical pump–terahertz probe techniques. Functionalized pentacene crystals with tri-isopropylsilylethynyl (TIPS) and tri-ethylsilylethynyl (TES) side groups were studied, characterized by crystal structures favoring two-dimensional and one-dimensional charge transports, respectively. Charge carrier mobility anisotropies in the a-b plane of 3.5±0.6 and 12±6 were obtained in the TIPS and TES crystals, respectively, consistent with the degree of π overlap along different directions in the crystals. A photogeneration efficiency anisotropy was also observed in both types of crystals.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated hysteresis in pentacene-based field effect transistors with SiO2 as gate dielectric and showed that hole trapping is responsible.
Abstract: We have investigated hysteresis in pentacene-based field-effect transistors with SiO2 as gate dielectric. A clear hysteresis behavior in transfer and output characteristics is reported. Measurements show that the observed hysteresis is due to hole trapping in the pentacene film. Long time constants of the trapping/detrapping mechanism are demonstrated through transient measurements. An initialization routine to be performed prior to measurements is proposed to enable reproducible and reliable measurements on pentacene transistors.
