TL;DR: In this article, self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) are used to change the surface energy of the metal electrodes and morphology of the pentacene subsequently grown on the electrodes.
Abstract: Pentacene-based organic field effect transistors (FETs) exhibit enormous potential as active elements in a number of applications. One significant obstacle to commercial application remains: no completely lithographic process exists for forming high-performance devices. Processing constraints prevent electrodes from being lithographically patterned once the semiconductor is deposited, but depositing the electrodes before the semiconductor leads to low-performance transistors. By using self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) to change the surface energy of the metal electrodes and morphology of the pentacene subsequently grown on the electrodes, high-performance transistors may be formed using a process compatible with lithographic definition of the source and drain electrodes.

TL;DR: Single-crystal field effect transistors of the organic semiconductor dithiophene-tetrathiafulvalene (DT-TTF) were prepared by drop casting and the highest hole mobility observed was 1.4 cm2/Vs, which is the highest reported for an Organic semiconductor not based on pentacene.
Abstract: Single-crystal field effect transistors of the organic semiconductor dithiophene-tetrathiafulvalene (DT-TTF) were prepared by drop casting. Long, thin crystals connected two microfabricated gold electrodes, and a silicon substrate was used as a back gate. The highest hole mobility observed was 1.4 cm2/Vs, which is the highest reported for an organic semiconductor not based on pentacene. A high ON/OFF ratio of at least 7 x 105 was obtained for this device.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors report on modeling of direct current (DC) characteristics of organic pentacene thin film transistors of different designs, incorporating a gatevoltage dependent mobility and highly nonlinear drain and source contact series resistances.
Abstract: We report on modeling of direct current (DC) characteristics of organic pentacene thin film transistors of different designs. Our model incorporates a gate-voltage dependent mobility and highly nonlinear drain and source contact series resistances. The contact nonlinearities are especially pronounced in bottom source and drain contact thin film transistors. The model successfully reproduced both below- and above-threshold characteristics of top source and drain contact and bottom source and drain contact organic pentacene thin film transistors.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that polymer residues remaining on graphene surfaces induce a stand-up orientation ofpentacene, thereby controlling pentacene growth such that the molecular assembly is optimal for charge transport.
Abstract: Organic electronic devices that use graphene electrodes have received considerable attention because graphene is regarded as an ideal candidate electrode material. Transfer and lithographic processes during fabrication of patterned graphene electrodes typically leave polymer residues on the graphene surfaces. However, the impact of these residues on the organic semiconductor growth mechanism on graphene surface has not been reported yet. Here, we demonstrate that polymer residues remaining on graphene surfaces induce a stand-up orientation of pentacene, thereby controlling pentacene growth such that the molecular assembly is optimal for charge transport. Thus, pentacene field-effect transistors (FETs) using source/drain monolayer graphene electrodes with polymer residues show a high field-effect mobility of 1.2 cm2/V s. In contrast, epitaxial growth of pentacene having molecular assembly of lying-down structure is facilitated by π−π interaction between pentacene and the clean graphene electrode without po...
