TL;DR: This work has found that (μ + t)η, where μ and η are the octahedral factor and the atomic packing fraction, respectively, demonstrates a remarkably linear correlation with thermodynamic stability and may help the efficient high-throughput search for emerging stable perovskites and precise control of chemical compositions for stabilizing current perovkites.
Abstract: Stability is of central importance in current perovskite solar cell research and applications. Goldschmidt tolerance factor (t) recently provided qualitative guidance for experimentalists to engineer stable ABX3 perovskite by tuning effective ionic size with mixing cations or anions and for theorists to search emerging perovskites. Through first-principles calculations, we have calculated decomposition energies of 138 perovskite compounds of potential solar cell applications. Instead of t, we have found that (μ + t)η, where μ and η are the octahedral factor and the atomic packing fraction, respectively, demonstrates a remarkably linear correlation with thermodynamic stability. As a stability descriptor, (μ + t)η is able to predict the relative stability among any two perovskites with an accuracy of ∼90%. This trend is then used to predict decomposition energies of another 69 perovskites, and the results are in excellent agreement with first-principles calculations, indicating the generalization of the tre...

TL;DR: In this paper, a CH3NH3PbI3-based perovskite photodetector was constructed on the flexible indium tin oxide (ITO) coated substrate even after 200 bending cycles.
Abstract: Hybrid organic–inorganic perovskites have attracted intensive interest as light absorbing materials in solid-state solar cells. Herein, we demonstrate a high-performance CH3NH3PbI3-based perovskite photodetector constructed on the flexible indium tin oxide (ITO) coated substrate even after 200 bending cycles. The as-fabricated devices show high responsivity, broad spectrum response from ultraviolet to whole visible light, long-term stability, and high on-off ratio. Particularly, atomic layer deposition technique was used to deposit the ultrathin Al2O3 film on devices, functioning as a protection layer to effectively enhance the stability and durability of perovskite photodetectors. The first all-perovskite self-powered nanosystem was successfully assembled by integrating a perovskite solar cell with a perovskite photodetector. Driven by the perovskite solar cell, the photodetector exhibits fast and stable response to illuminated light at a low working voltage less than 1.0 V. This stable integrated nanosystem has promising applications in which photodetectors can work in harsh environments without external power sources.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors partially replace Pb2+ with Ca2+ in the CsPbI3 precursor, producing multiple benefits, such as more uniform films with larger grains and better contact at the interface between the perovskite and the hole transport layer.
Abstract: Cesium metal halides are potential light-harvesting materials for use in the top cells of multi-junction devices due to their suitable bandgaps and good thermal stabilities. In particular, CsPbI3 has a bandgap of 1.7 eV, which is suitable for perovskite/Si tandem cells. However, the desirable black phase for CsPbI3 is not stable because Cs is too small to support the PbI6 octahedra. Also, there is room for improvement in terms of cell performance. Herein, we partially replace Pb2+ with Ca2+ in the CsPbI3 precursor, producing multiple benefits. Firstly, more uniform films with larger grains are produced from CsPbI3 with Ca2+, due to the reduction in the size of the colloids in the precursor solution with Ca2+. This morphology improvement provides better contact at the interface between the perovskite and the hole transport layer. In addition, it is found that the surface of the film is modified by the formation of a Ca rich oxide layer, providing a surface passivation effect. Finally, incorporation of Ca increases the band gap, leading to an increase in output voltage. The best CsPbI3 solar cell using 5% Ca2+ substitution in the precursor achieves a stabilised efficiency of 13.3%, and maintains 85% of its initial efficiency for over 2 months with encapsulation.

TL;DR: A scalable, hysteresis-free and planar architecture perovskite solar cell is presented, employing a flame spray synthesized low-temperature processed NiO (LT-NiO) as hole-transporting layer yielding efficiencies close to 18%.
Abstract: UNLABELLED A scalable, hysteresis-free and planar architecture perovskite solar cell is presented, employing a flame spray synthesized low-temperature processed NiO (LT-NiO) as hole-transporting layer yielding efficiencies close to 18%. Importantly, it is found that LT-NiO boosts the limits of open-circuit voltages toward an impressive non-radiative voltage loss of 0.226 V only, whereas PEDOT PSS suffers from significant large non-radiative recombination losses.
