TL;DR: The spatially and temporally resolved measurements reported here underscore the importance of the local morphology and establish an important first step towards discerning the underlying transport properties of perovskite materials.
Abstract: Determining the mechanism of charge carrier transport in solar cells is important for their development towards higher efficiencies. Here, the authors elucidate the spatial and temporal diffusion of charge carriers in hybrid perovskite thin films through ultrafast transient absorption microscopy.

TL;DR: In this paper, ordered mesoporous LaCoO3 perovskite with high surface area was synthesized via nanocasting strategy by using ordered mesophorous cubic (Ia3d) vinyl silica as the template.
Abstract: Ordered mesoporous LaCoO3 perovskite with high surface area was synthesized via nanocasting strategy by using ordered mesoporous cubic (Ia3d) vinyl silica as the template. The sample, prepared by filling mesopores in silica template with a La−Co citrate complex precursor followed by calcination and silica removal, was characterized by XRD, TEM, and nitrogen sorption techniques, and its catalytic activity was tested for complete methane oxidation. The wide-angle XRD pattern showed LaCoO3 perovskite was formed and no La-oxide/Co-oxide phases were detected in the obtained material. This LaCoO3 perovskite displayed a high BET surface area of 96.7 m2 g−1 from nitrogen sorption analysis and a three-dimensional ordered mesostructure from TEM images, as well as a small-angle XRD pattern. Moreover, this material showed much higher activity in the complete methane oxidation than the conventional bulk LaCoO3 perovskite. The light-off temperature (T10) and the half-conversion temperature (T50) were at 335 and 470 °C,...

TL;DR: A simple and versatile method to grow monodisperse CH3NH3PbBrxIx-3 perovskite nanocrystals inside mesoporous silica templates improves their stability and enables tunable electronic properties via quantum confinement.
Abstract: Hybrid organic–inorganic metal halide perovskites have fascinating electronic properties and have already been implemented in various devices. Although the behavior of bulk metal halide perovskites has been widely studied, the properties of perovskite nanocrystals are less well-understood because synthesizing them is still very challenging, in part because of stability. Here we demonstrate a simple and versatile method to grow monodisperse CH3NH3PbBrxIx-3 perovskite nanocrystals inside mesoporous silica templates. The size of the nanocrystal is governed by the pore size of the templates (3.3, 3.7, 4.2, 6.2, and 7.1 nm). In-depth structural analysis shows that the nanocrystals maintain the perovskite crystal structure, but it is slightly distorted. Quantum confinement was observed by tuning the size of the particles via the template. This approach provides an additional route to tune the optical bandgap of the nanocrystal. The level of quantum confinement was modeled taking into account the dimensions of t...

TL;DR: In this paper, tetravalent tin (Sn4+) instead of divalent lead (Pb2+) was used to synthesize stable Cs2SnI6 perovskite nanocrystals.
Abstract: Colloidal nanocrystals of lead halide perovskites have recently received great attention due to their remarkable performance in optoelectronic applications (e.g., light-emitting devices, flexible electronics, and photodetectors). However, the use of lead remains of great concern due to its toxicity and bioaccumulation in the ecosystem; herein we report a strategy to address this issue by using tetravalent tin (Sn4+) instead of divalent lead (Pb2+) to synthesize stable Cs2SnI6 perovskite nanocrystals. The shapes of as-synthesized Cs2SnI6 nanocrystals are tuned from spherical quantum dots, nanorods, nanowires, and nanobelts to nanoplatelets via a facile hot-injection process using inexpensive and nontoxic commercial precursors. Spherical aberration corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy (Cs-corrected STEM) and simulation studies revealed a well-defined face-centered-cubic (fcc) perovskite derivative structure of Cs2SnI6 nanocrystals. The solution-processed Cs2SnI6 nanocrystal-based field effect...
