TL;DR: Femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopic measurements show the effect that humidity has on the ultrafast excited state dynamics of CH(3)NH( 3)PbI(3).
Abstract: Humidity has been an important factor, in both negative and positive ways, in the development of perovskite solar cells and will prove critical in the push to commercialize this exciting new photovoltaic technology. The interaction between CH(3)NH(3)PbI(3) and H(2)O vapor is investigated by characterizing the ground-state and excited-state optical absorption properties and probing morphology and crystal structure. These undertakings reveal that H(2)O exposure does not simply cause CH(3)NH(3)PbI(3) to revert to PbI(2). It is shown that, in the dark, H(2)O is able to complex with the perovskite, forming a hydrate product similar to (CH(3)NH(3))(4)PbI(6)·2H(2)O. This causes a decrease in absorption across the visible region of the spectrum and a distinct change in the crystal structure of the material. Femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopic measurements show the effect that humidity has on the ultrafast excited state dynamics of CH(3)NH(3)PbI(3). More importantly, the deleterious effects of humidity on complete solar cells, specifically on photovoltaic efficiency and stability, are explored in the light of these spectroscopic understandings.

TL;DR: The perovskite compound CsPbBr3 as mentioned in this paper is a direct band gap semiconductor which meets most of the requirements for successful detection of X and γ-ray radiation, such as high attenuation, high resistivity, and significant photoconductivity response, with detector resolution comparable to that of commercial, state-of-the-art materials.
Abstract: The synthesis, crystal growth, and structural and optoelectronic characterization has been carried out for the perovskite compound CsPbBr3. This compound is a direct band gap semiconductor which meets most of the requirements for successful detection of X- and γ-ray radiation, such as high attenuation, high resistivity, and significant photoconductivity response, with detector resolution comparable to that of commercial, state-of-the-art materials. A structural phase transition which occurs during crystal growth at higher temperature does not seem to affect its crystal quality. Its μτ product for both hole and electron carriers is approximately equal. The μτ product for electrons is comparable to cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) and that for holes is 10 times higher than CZT.

TL;DR: In this article, an interdiffusion method was proposed to fabricate pinhole free perovskite films using a low temperature solution process, achieving an efficiency of 15.4% with a fill factor of ∼80%.
Abstract: We report on an interdiffusion method to fabricate pin-hole free perovskite films using a low temperature (<105 °C) solution process. A high efficiency of 15.4%, with a fill factor of ∼80%, was achieved for the devices under one sun illumination. The interdiffusion method results in high device yield, with an efficiency of above 14.5% for more than 85% of the devices.

TL;DR: This work demonstrates the formation of a hydrated intermediate containing isolated PbI6(4-) octahedra as the first step of the degradation mechanism, suggesting a route toward perovskite solar cells with long device lifetimes and a resistance to humidity.
Abstract: Perovskite solar cells have rapidly advanced to the forefront of solution-processable photovoltaic devices, but the CH3NH3PbI3 semiconductor decomposes rapidly in moist air, limiting their commercial utility. In this work, we report a quantitative and systematic investigation of perovskite degradation processes. By carefully controlling the relative humidity of an environmental chamber and using in situ absorption spectroscopy and in situ grazing incidence X-ray diffraction to monitor phase changes in perovskite degradation process, we demonstrate the formation of a hydrated intermediate containing isolated PbI64– octahedra as the first step of the degradation mechanism. We also show that the identity of the hole transport layer can have a dramatic impact on the stability of the underlying perovskite film, suggesting a route toward perovskite solar cells with long device lifetimes and a resistance to humidity.

TL;DR: Although perovskite light-emitting devices are yet to become industrially relevant, in merely two years these devices have achieved the brightness and efficiencies that organic light-EMitting diodes accomplished in two decades.
Abstract: Organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites have cemented their position as an exceptional class of optoelectronic materials thanks to record photovoltaic efficiencies of 22.1%, as well as promising demonstrations of light-emitting diodes, lasers, and light-emitting transistors. Perovskite materials with photoluminescence quantum yields close to 100% and perovskite light-emitting diodes with external quantum efficiencies of 8% and current efficiencies of 43 cd A(-1) have been achieved. Although perovskite light-emitting devices are yet to become industrially relevant, in merely two years these devices have achieved the brightness and efficiencies that organic light-emitting diodes accomplished in two decades. Further advances will rely decisively on the multitude of compositional, structural variants that enable the formation of lower-dimensionality layered and three-dimensional perovskites, nanostructures, charge-transport materials, and device processing with architectural innovations. Here, the rapid advancements in perovskite light-emitting devices and lasers are reviewed. The key challenges in materials development, device fabrication, operational stability are addressed, and an outlook is presented that will address market viability of perovskite light-emitting devices.
