TL;DR: An efficient algorithm to track point features supported by image patches undergoing affine deformations and changes in illumination is developed based on a combined model of geometry and photometry that is used to track features as well as to detect outliers in a hypothesis testing framework.
Abstract: We develop an efficient algorithm to track point features supported by image patches undergoing affine deformations and changes in illumination. The algorithm is based on a combined model of geometry and photometry, that is used to track features as well as to detect outliers in a hypothesis testing framework. The algorithm runs in real time on a personal computer; and is available to the public.

TL;DR: In this article, an intelligent memory system, method, and computer program product for enabling stand-alone or distributed client-server software applications to operate at maximum speeds on a personal computer and the like.
Abstract: An intelligent memory system, method, and computer program product for enabling stand-alone or distributed client-server software applications to operate at maximum speeds on a personal computer and the like. An intelligent memory (IM) allows the acceleration of computer software processes through process virtual memory, application optimization, multiprocessor control, and system strategies. The IM includes both control logic and memory. The control logic uses an application database and system database to determine a set of modifications to the computer, application, and/or operating system, while the memory stores the application and allows the control logic to implement the set of modifications. A remote performance management system is also described which allows an IM service provider to supply the infrastructure to clients (e.g., e-businesses and the like who run World Wide Web servers) to facilitate and accelerate their content offerings to end user clients (i.e., consumers).

TL;DR: The study showed a negative association between the intake of added sugar and intakes of micronutrients, fruit and vegetables, which is important from a public health perspective, since one of the main health messages today is to increase current intake of Fruit and vegetables.
Abstract: Objective: It is debated whether the intake of added sugar displaces micronutrientrich foods and dilutes the nutrient density of the diet, and whether there is a link between sugar and the increased rate of obesity. The objectives of this study were to examine the effect of added sugar on the intakes of energy, micronutrients, fruit and vegetables, and to examine the association between intake of added sugar and age, sex, body mass index, physical activity, inactivity and parents’ education. Design: Participants recorded their food intake in pre-coded food diaries for 4 days and filled in a questionnaire about physical activity, watching television (TV)/using a personal computer (PC) and parents’ education. Subjects: Three hundred and ninety-one 4-year-olds, 810 students in the 4th grade (9 years old) and 1005 in the 8th grade (13 years old) were included in the study. Results: The intakes of all nutrients, except a-tocopherol among 4-year-olds and vitamin C among 4-year-olds and 4th graders, decreased with increasing content of added sugar in the diet. Moreover, high consumers of added sugar had a 30–40% lower intake of fruit and vegetables than did low consumers. A negative association was observed between consumption of added sugar and body mass index among girls in the 8th grade (P ¼ 0.013), whereas a positive association was observed among 4-year-old boys (P ¼ 0.055). Associations between physical activity, hours spent watching TV/using a PC, parents’ education and the energy intake from added sugar varied in the different age groups. Conclusions: This study showed a negative association between the intake of added sugar and intakes of micronutrients, fruit and vegetables. The negative association between sugar intake and intake of fruit and vegetables is important from a public health perspective, since one of the main health messages today is to increase current intake of fruit and vegetables.

TL;DR: A power management system for a personal computer comprises a power management processor, a switchable power supply and a keep alive power supply as discussed by the authors, which is coupled to the computer through an interface.
Abstract: A power management system for a personal computer comprises a power management processor, a switchable power supply and a keep alive power supply. The processor is powered by the keep alive power supply that continuously provides power. The computer is powered by a power supply that is switchable in response to a control signal. The processor preferably controls the switchable power supply. The processor is coupled to receive external device interrupts from a plurality of external devices that instruct the processor when to turn the switchable power supply on and off. The processor is also coupled to the computer through an interface. The power management system also includes a method for turning the computer on and off. A preferred method uses the processor to control the power provided to the computer. The preferred method also uses the processor to dictate whether the computer will to perform a long boot that brings the computer to an operational state, identifies the computer's configuration, and tests memory, or a short boot that brings the computer to an operational state in a much shorter time. A preferred method for turning the computer off includes the ability to exit a program being run by the computer, and saving a hardware state of the computer on a hard disk.

TL;DR: In this paper, a rigorous mathematical method is proposed for dealing with the ramp-rate limits in unit commitment and the rotor fatigue effect in economic dispatch, where the Lagrangian relaxation method is used to generate the unit commitment schedule with relaxed power balance constraints and a network model is adopted to represent the dynamic process of operating a unit over the entire study time span.
Abstract: In this study, a rigorous mathematical method is proposed for dealing with the ramp-rate limits in unit commitment and the rotor fatigue effect in economic dispatch An iterative procedure is employed to coordinate the unit commitment and the power dispatch for obtaining an economical solution within a reasonable time The Lagrangian relaxation method is used to generate the unit commitment schedule with relaxed power balance constraints A network model is adopted to represent the dynamic process of operating a unit over the entire study time span, as the required unit commitment schedule can be achieved by searching for the shortest path in the network In order to find the global optimal solution for the economic dispatch problem within personal computer resources, a piecewise linear model is used for thermal units Furthermore, linear programming is used in optimizing the benefits of ramping the units, with low operating cost against the cost of shortening the service life of the turbine rotor In this regard, linear programming is used to dispatch the power generation among committed units by considering a ramping penalty for the fatigue effect in rotor shafts, while preserving the operational constraints of the system as well as the generating units >
